"Check In" here before and after your gigs this weekend!

well, the show far outweighed my expectations last night. the hall was a pain loading in, because it was the second floor, but the room was really nice. about 150 kids showed up, and 2 of them tried really hard to ruin it for everyone else. one was 17 and drunk off of a pint of rum and trying to fight everyone. at one point in our set the singer jumped into the crowd and set him straight, and he wasn't a problem for the rest of the night. the pa consisted mainly of home audio speakers, which was odd... but it sounded alright. i guess the pa never actually showed up so one of the local bands improvised. we played a really tight set, which i attribute to our new practice regimen. we were tired of playing a song and then stopping and playing another song, so we tried writing a set and throwing transition riffs between all of the songs. it worked out really well and the energy in the crowd stayed way up the whole set. plus our singer only had the chance to get windy on the microphone once.
as far as negatives, the aforementioned jerks were the biggest problem. also, a kid booked the show, and there were a lot of pretty young bands, so the show didn't move along too well. they haven't learned that you get your stuff together and on stage fast and get it off fast too. the first 3 bands had set up and tear down times that were probably 20 min. a piece, which is fairly ridiculous considering the amount of equipment they had. hopefully our 5 min set up and tear down will rub off on them.
i had fun last night, hope everyone else's gigs were equally rockin'.

Tonight (friday): Garage show with a bunch of local bands and a couple of touring hardcore bands. It's our lead singer Mitch's birthday, so we're calling it "Mitchapalooza." Should be a good time.

Tomorrow: We're playing with a couple of other local hardcore bands and Write This Down, a very cool screamo/post hardcore band from Minneapolis. I'm really pumped about this one.

OK, both of my gigs went pretty well. Nothing terribly noteworthy, but they were both a lot of fun to play.

the show went really well. No train wrecks, the vibe of the club was good, my intonation was umm, err, ok :p .

Now to have some fun with the Shagadelic Swingers this week!!! :bassist:

I'm starting a 2-nighter tonight at Addy's in Manassas VA. Should be a lot better than the last gig, because the bandleader worked on the monitor system and found TEN different connectors that needed to be re-soldered! I knew something was wrong! It better be right, because the onstage sound there is awful! That room is the main reason we got the in-ear system. So if that works, and my new wireless for the bass works, it should be a good weekend. I hope so. After working on my taxes all week, I need a good weekend! :bassist:



PS Taxes suck!!!

PPS I'm gonna try out a new name for the band: Imus and the NappyHos !

We play two gigs this weekend in northcentral WI.

Tonight we play at a great bar that is known for having good music and always has good crowds. We know the new owner quite well. He recently re-bought the place and remodeled.

He will only be booking bigger acts out of the Twin Cities, Madison, Milwaukee or the Fox Valley from now on. He has no intention of hiring local cover bands. Except for our band (very cool for us). It's good that we have good reputation around here to be able to keep this gig on our rotation. It's always been one of our favorite places to play.

Tomorrow night we are playing at some place called "Bubba-Gump's Country Bumpkin" or something like that. :D All I know is, it's a place out in the middle of nowhere that apparently is in need of some live music.

It will either be a cool gig, with people starving for some rock'n'roll, or it will be the Blues Bros. Chicken Wire scene. :eek: I know with the drunk driving laws, a lot of people who live out in the country don't want to be driving all the way into town, so who knows...this could be a very good gig. The bar owners have seen us before and they are very anxious to have us play and have been advertising the heck out of it. So we'll see how that goes.

okay a little late, played last Friday night, first gig with this band, drummer sped up and slowed down, lite crowed, no sound check, I was way too loud, turned down, couldn't hear the guitarist or vocals, sounded horrible. I haven't viewed it yet but supposedly the video and the sound were good, some mistakes heard on it.

Like we've all said, we are our own worst critic,

Playing some Bluegrass Music at the Stillwater Arts Festival Tomarrow/later today (whatever your perspective is.). Of course, that is provided the sky does not continue on it's vengful rampage. Should start @ 3, and I am pumped up for redeeming ourselves after the last gig... Lots of friends and family. Check the mypace if you would like a taste and are in the area (can't be too many of us bass addicts around here...)!

A little belated but meh.

Played our local pub last Saturday night, everything went well. A few comments about Substitute, Bass was fine :smug: but the vox and drums were lacking :( We will probably drop it now as the drums wont get any better. Basically the guy is getting on a bit and was slowing down towards the end. I kind of felt bad when I looked back with about 5 songs to go, he looked absolutely shattered.

Other than that it went really well. Lots of good feedback and managed to score a future booking possibly two.

Might need to re-assess the drumming situation though. Its a shame cause he is a nice guy but just cant really keep up :(

Gig last night went great. We packed the place. It was the best crowd they've ever had there. Totally rocked the house all night long. Very fun crowd. It was nice to have a wireless set up to go out into the crowd.

Tired today though. I have to leave in a couple of hours for tonight's gig out in the middle of nowhere. Hope I return. ;)

My 2-nighter went pretty well. Most importantly, the in-ear monitors and the wireless for the bass both worked just fine. Not much of a crowd Fri, but a lot better on Sat, they came out through the rain! And I got to sing my most favorite song both nights!

I think I'm officially done with my band.

Friday night we played sweet spot on a three band bill at one of our regular joints.

Same soundguy who sucked last time we played there. He has some desire to eq vocals so that the midrange hurts my ears. Every time the opening act would get bg vocals I had to cover my ears out of physical pain.

Anyway, our slot opens up and I bring my stuff to the stage to find I have no place for my gear. As much lip service as frontman gives to this being "our band" his actions really don't reflect it. So I'm stuck on the far end of the stage unable to get close to drummer, and visually hidden behind a PA stack.

Set begins alright, with the exception of there being no lead guitar in the monitors, and barely any of frontman's guitar -- but eh, at least I can try and get tight with the drums which has been one of our weakest spots. The low mix on the guitars let me hear the drummer missing bg vocals.

Lead guitar gets cranked up in the monitors and by the second song our onstage mix is adequate and the crowd seems to be into it (one of the nice things about having lots of friends in the crowd... we even got people dancing to our third song).

By fourth song into the set though, drummer's f---ing up big time. Dropping sticks, missing fills, tempo problems, adding measures... bringing the suck. By the end of our sixth song I look up to find our crowd halved, and what's left is hanging against the wall. Never a good feeling.

The back end of our set has more upbeat material, and we won back some crowd with it, but drummer still was bringing his F game and at some point lead guitarist's volume became ridiculously loud, I assume because of a pedal level being incorrectly set in his oversized pedal board.

We ended the set well, and as we were walking offstage I was even approached by a random audience member about purchasing demos (we had none), but overall I'm frustrated by our drummer's inconsistancies. All the songs we'd worked hard to lock in on during practices were sloppy.

I put up an ad on craig's list immediately after I got home and have already gotten a half dozen offers. I think my tenure with these guys is complete.
