Two gigs this weekend

An all ages show at the Princess Theatre tonight, this one should be a goody as we are playing with some bigger bands and it's been well promoted

And then a smallish show at the Alley bar on Sunday night, should also be good to get up there and get the music out to everyone!

Well, after a one week vacation that kept me from gigging for two weekends in a row, I have 2 gigs for this weekend. Last night was at the Oasis room at Wheeling Island Racetrack & Gaming Center. Great room with fantastic house PA, lights and stage......gig went pretty well with one of the better crowds that we've had in that room. Tonight a small club right down the road from my house. It will be interesting for me, since I'm using my Bergantino IP112 for the first time this weekend......last night it was basically for stage only, as the PA was great, but tonite there is much less PA support, so we'll see how it goes!

We went last night to a little joint we've been to several times since last fall called The Mule Lip. Goofy name, yes, but one of the most fun crowds! It's out in the middle of nowhere and I guess they don't worry about "putting on airs".

Our regular drummer was on vacation, so we had a sit-in who was an absolutely awesome drummer. He has played with us a couple of times before, and it was great to play with someone who had a little different approach to some of the songs. The phrase for the night was "I'm on top of it!", and every couple of songs when we would tell him what was up next, he would say "I'm on top of it!". It got funnier as the night went on, which helped everyone relax, and overall, I think we all played quite well.

We were almost done for the night, and some guy with a long beard goes "When are you going to do some ZZ Top?" Sharp Dressed Man is one of the songs I do, so as we started the song I said "Looks like ZZ Top is already here!" , he started laughing, we did the song, it went great, and afterwards he came up and gave me compliments on my singing. That really felt good! :)

We have some more gigs coming up in April, and I'm definitely looking forward to them.

Just got back from a club gig at a place that we played for the first time. This club is on the "A" list for the area, and we had a great show. The owner already booked us for two other dates, but now he wants us to play more. I think a lot of you have been through this...There comes a time when you feel your band hitting a good stride. I think we're in that position at the moment.

By the way, I bought a 2002 Ric and used it throughout both shows this weekend and it ROCKED. My gosh, the thing oozes quality and tone.

We did our first gig in 3 weeks, a benefit for a kids' baseball team, in a multipurpose building at a fairgrounds last night. It didn't go real well, for a number of reasons. We were rusty, but that was the least of the problems.
The first five songs of the night went well, or so I thought. The sixth song was the first one I sing lead on. So I'm singing away, and I see the soundman approaching me with a wireless mic in hand. He takes up a position to my left, and holds the mic up next to my (wired) mic, so I'm singing into both. Turns out my mic was not coming through the FOH for the first 5 songs. :rolleyes: Somehow, the wireless mic wasn't in my earphones, so I had to sing into both.
After last night, I have sworn off the in-ear monitor system. I've been forced to conclude that it just can't be made to sound right consistently, and I'd rather have nothing than have a constant annoyance in my ear. When the keyboard player started blowing a police whistle into his headset mic, that didn't help. I actually had to stop playing so I could reach around to my back pocket and unplug the earphones from the receiver unit. :rollno: My ears are ringing a lot more than usual this morning.
Well, enough whining. I'll spare you the rest of the complaint list. I may have to move on from this band, since my issues don't get resolved. :(

Thanks for your support. We normally would'nt consider an out of town gig this far North but we are new and connected up with the Iron Range Blast II Concert and at the end of the night there will be jams with the guys from Savoy Brown, Crow and Lamont Cranston. How much better does that get?

Well, we played at Sabin's in Chisholm, MN this weekend.
It went very well. The stage is smaller than I remembered it to be,
but the crowds were good both nights.

The 80 mile drive in an ice storm wasn't so fun, we saw lots of cars
either in the ditch or completely turned over. Many flashing lights
and tow trucks. Needless to say we took our time getting there
and getting home again.
Here's an idea of what the stage is like:

We booked one of our last two available weekends for the year
there, and the owner told us that if we have any cancellations
or wanted to do any one-nighters he'd be glad to have us.

Hope you're gig went well. The Iron Range Blast II Concert and
jams following sound like a lot of fun. I really like the LaMont
Cranston Band. Let us know how it goes.

hahaha... I had a fun one this weekend. I've been playing with this singer/songwriter/worship leader named Lindsey Kane, and she leads worship for a lot of girls' events around the country. Well there was one here in town this weekend for 3rd thru 6th grade girls. There were over 600 girls and moms in the audience. It was a blast! They were all singing along and dancing... great fun!

It was a little weird being one of about 4 men in the whole building, though. :ninja:

We did our first full night gig Saturday at the SRO Lounge in Andover and it went real well. Well, except we blew 1/2 the stages power in the middle of our 2nd song and we had to finish I just want to make Love to you with drums, bass, 1 guitar, no singer/no sound. Had all our friends and family there. All tunes went off without a hitch. Our new guitar player was excellent and you could not tell he had been with us only 4 weeks! WE rocked!
We did 3 hours of music and the crowd hollered and wanted more when we finished, so we encored for another 20 minutes. We have certainly found a pretty good niche with the harder side of 70's rock. Led Zep, Deep Purple, Bad Co. all went over well. Unbelievable that people danced to Paranoid and Kashmere! And sang along!
Can't wait for our next gig. What a blast.
Over 50 and still rockin!:cool:
PS: And we got paid!

Thanks for the pic and the update. Looks like that stage may have been a little small for the six of us.Hoping that Tom & Jerrys is a bit bigger.
Glad all went well and you survived the drive.

Well, I didn't check "in" this weekend, but my band had a gig at the House of Bricks in Des Moines. A couple of friends of ours are starting to try to book shows, and we figured that we would help them out and play what we thought to be a pretty lame show. We weren't expecting much for turnout or anything like that, but it ended up being a lot of fun. We had as many people dancing as were going to dance, and we ended up getting paid really well (for us). It's amazing how much more fun it is to play when you have crowd participation.

OK, I'll check in first this week:

Tonight (friday): Garage show with a bunch of local bands and a couple of touring hardcore bands. It's our lead singer Mitch's birthday, so we're calling it "Mitchapalooza." Should be a good time.

Tomorrow: We're playing with a couple of other local hardcore bands and Write This Down, a very cool screamo/post hardcore band from Minneapolis. I'm really pumped about this one.

Tomorrow night (sat) at The Toad Tavern in Littleton.. It'll be fun since we're only doing a single set of our own material.

I like doing the all-nighters, but it's fun to just get up there for an hour or so, play your butt off, and leave them wanting more..

we've got a show at some legion hall in beautiful downtown ravenswood, wv saturday night. the last time we played there it was a total nightmare. actually, we've never played the legion up there, but we did play an outdoor festival, that because of old-testament style rain the show got moved to a church basement. now, we're a very loud hardcore band. the opening act was a girl singing and a guy with an acoustic. we had about 8 kids show up to see us, and they all cancelled their show that night because they wanted to see us. oh.. did i mention we didn't get paid?
sooo... we don't expect much from this show saturday, except the guarantee. if you're in the area, click on my link down there and come out. we might not be expecting much from the show, but we'll still have fun.

Wow, another TB'er from WV! I don't think there's too many of us around here. I see on your myspace you are playing Yesterday's soon.......in my hometown, and right up the street from a club that we play regularly. I'm not much into the hardcore scene, but have a great gig this weekend, and when you come up to Wheeling!

yeah, i posted a few pages ago to let you know about that show at yesterdays. there def. aren't that many of us here in wv, but that's what keeps me in gigs i guess. if you're not playing that night, you oughta come hang out. i'm not much into the hardcore scene either, but it's awfully fun playing it.

hey all,
checking in *before* :)

got a gig on Sunday night in Vancouver at the Jupiter Lounge (i think that's the name) it's an acoustic trio showcase for a buddy of mine Heath Whitelock

should be a blast, I'll be on the doghouse which is always an adventure :smug:
