I would definitely do the Brazillian again if I could.....probably with the 3TS in Nitro..... w/ a tort guard......do the whole Jamerson 5 thing......that's what I plan on doing someday anyways......perhaps.....

That's exactly what I was thinking... then I got the price. So, I'm looking at options. Who knows. I guess after you get to a certain level that you should go all the way, eh?

Good point, Ken. Yes, that is a Celinder Vintage Precision 4, and it certainly is one of those 'play one note, and you know you've got something special' basses. Personal preferences will always control how different people respond to different basses, but I think that there are those certain very special examples that do manage to stand out from the rest of the crowd. I totally agree with you on that particular Celinder, and I'd say that my prototype Dingwall AB 4 definitely falls into that category, as does my pre-Gibson Tobias Basic 5. I've been able to play a number of pre-Gibson Tobiases, and that Basic 5 just flat out kills!
Now, I just gotta figure out a way to trick Tom out of that AC...

LOL.........No way am I gonna do that to myself right now.....it's still kinda chilly here in DC and I kinda like living indoors so I gotta keep that rent thing in order......To AJ Brown, if cash is an issue, go with Indian..really....no one has anything bad to say about it and it should definitely satisfy tonally, i would think.....take that extra cash and buy a hard case, flatwound strings and bank the rest........or.....go all the way.....life is kinda short when you think about it.....

You're going to get opinions either way, to be honest. Some will say there is a difference between the Brazilian and Indian rosewoods in tone. Live, I doubt anyone would notice. In the studio, maybe. I'd talk to Jimmy and see what he has to say about it. Jimmy certaily wasn't steering me toward the Brazilian, and my bank account thanks him
I think the vast majority of us would say that the tone differences between poly and nitro are going to be extremely subtle at best. I decided to go nitro on my LG5 because I've never had a bass in nitro and I wanted to check out that vibe.Does this mean you care more about aesthetics? If so put your money there.That might mean going Poly to try and cut down the nick and dent factor.
Given those 2 choices I'd go with "A" I'd jump for the Board then I'd paint a solid color just so I wouldn't look at another 3TB and feel like questioning myself or worse regret.
Truthfully,I Think the only way you'll go "wrong" is if you don't listen to yourself.

+1. I'll just mention again that my Harvest Gold LM-5 is probably the most 'basic' instrument that Jimmy makes, and since I bought it off the website and it had been sitting around a bit after all the others are sold, I'm convinced that it isn't at the top of the Alleva 'special' continuum.
But... it's the best bass I've ever owned!!! That's a long winded way of saying that it will be pretty hard to 'go wrong' with one of these as long as you like a relatively vintage, passive-oriented Fender type tone.
Pick a spec that looks good to you and let 'er rip!!!!!
I couldn't stand it any more. I just got off the phone with Jimmy after putting down a deposit on an LG-5, oly white, tort pg, passive. I went with the Indian RW (+$1200 for Dalbergia). But something happened -- maybe it was when Jimmy told me that Paul Turner and Nathan Watts both have lacquer finishes on their A-C's -- and I ordered nitro all over.
Interesting A-C info tidbit: he's thinking real hard about relocating to California. So he cautioned me that it might be even longer.
So sometime in the next year I hope to be posting photos in this thread (probably on page 102,721,956) of what I'm kind of expecting will turn out to be my new #1 bass. Thanks to all and in the meantime I'll be here pacing back and forth, back and forth, back and forth.

Wow... between the accolades from guys like you, Tom Bowlus and others, they have got to be doing something special over there. I just can't believe how many guys (seasoned gear hounds) love these basses.
I'm itching now to see what the fuss is all about.
I hear ya AJ. The accolades and unanimous praise from TB'ers whom I respect is EXACTLY one of the main reasons I ordered a 3 tone Sunburst LG5 in Nitro with passive tone option. (Indian Rosewood) I would LOVE to hear your opinion of an Alleva in contrast to the mind blowing/exceptional instruments you own and play.
I wonder if Jimmy's potential move will impact the delivery date of my AC? I need to call anyway. I think I'm going to opt for Binding on my LG5. Need to make sure I can still get that option.
So you're going completely passive or getting a passive tone?
And matching headstock? That would put it over the top!

Passive tone. I want to be able to run active too, in fact might end up running active mostly -- my main bass now is a Sadowsky M5-24 that I almost always run active, so it's a big shift already.
I didn't get the matching headstock but how'd you guess I keep thinking about that? Y'all will start me thinking it makes it sound better. Of course, one of the recent subthreads right here has been about the fact that some build choices may or may not not show up in the tone of the bass but still might make a real difference in how we relate to it. That's one of 'em.
