Hey I am sorry if my fervor for the Dalbergia rubs some people the wrong way...Somebody took a shot at us over on the Sadowsky thread for it too....If I am out of line I apologize but it seems to me that people would WANT to know the difference instead of being wrong about it....Yes I said it...WRONG about it. If you don't think there is a difference in the species you are wrong and you are just circulating bad information that is also wrong. There is no mystery here. If you do a search and do some research it all becomes very clear. Instead of asking some people to that a few of us have obviously miserably failed at trying to clear up the mystery....We should start talking about bridge mass and colored strings again...nobody got pissed about that...

I am sorry...I won't do it again. Next time Ken and I and a few others will just say "DO A SEARCH"....

Peace,

T

Take the bet...Take me up on it and prove me wrong... I am dead serious about this. I guarantee you I can feel feel the difference...Throw in my ears and my nose and I GUARANTEE you I can pick the DN every time...NOTHING else feels or smells like it. Ask your favorite builder and see what they say.

Edit - Are you saying that you can't and therefore I can't either? Have you ever handled a lot of different woods? My family has owned a Retail Music business since the 1920s and I have been doing repairs on guitars, mandolins, basses, and other stuff for over 30 years. Do you feel the same way about one of the builders mentioned. I would bet money that any of those guys could tell the difference as well....

Peace,

T
Wow, take it easy dude. Yes, I find it hard to believe, and no, it's not just because I don't think I could. I'm nowhere near that self-centered an narcissistic. Not by a damn sight. Just simply because if you really can, I'd consider that to be a very rare talent.

Don't put insulting words or insinuations in my mouth. I hate that. I don't treat people that way, so I haven't given you any reason to assume I would.

Somebody took a shot at us over on the Sadowsky thread for it too....

Tom,
For the record, I didn't take a "shot." I was making light of some of the passionate discussions we all take part in here on a daily basis. No one was "dissed" and for the record, (IMO, anyway) there is no us and them (A-C vs. other brands).

As I stated in the other thread, I had the opportunity to play a KBP-5 for an entire set about a month ago. It was everything everyone on this thread said it would be and then some. I will probably add one to my stable sometime down the road. I'm just not sure what kind of fretboard I would spec... :D

I like you and I respect you and therefore I am not going to respond except to say that I said what I said with all sincerity. I CAN tell the difference. You responded with your post and I responded to that post. I did not call you any names nor did I insinuate in any way that you were self-centered or narcissistic, or were you implying that I am? I have many talents. I make my living as a recording engineer among other things and I have for going on 30 years. I have a VERY good ear...Golden ears to some. But what I said was I can FEEL the difference. That is really not as rare a talent as you may think it is. Anyone who has much experience with different tone woods or repair experience with musical instruments should be able to tell the difference and that was my point. I am not claiming any unique talent at all. I am merely saying that an experienced builder or user of Dalbergia would know the difference and I count myself among those who could. Sorry if I offended you but I made no inference to you in my post that seemed to provoke your response...surely you don't think I would take a jab without offering one back...you know me better than that! It is all good....as you said...take it easy!

BTW - I don't see where put any words in your mouth at all...I asked you a question. I made no insinuation or said anything for you.

OK...I won't characterize what I think you said I will just put it out there: This is exactly what you said...Anybody can take it as they want but I took it as a playful jab. Playful maybe but a jab nonetheless...

QUOTE "Man, some of the "other" clubs are rapidly overtaking our post-count. It kinda makes us look like we're not happenin' anymore...

Do any of you guys feel like taking a few hundred posts to talk about bridges and/or different types of rosewood?

:hiding:

:ninja:

:D " QUOTE

If I missed something or misread something or misunderstood something I do apologize...again. But that is how I read it...A bit condescending even if meant in fun, I did not get the joke....Sorry if I take myself too seriously sometimes. Some people consider it a flaw. The people I tend to work for consider it an asset....I'll let everybody else decide who is right...

Peace,

T

You basically said "are you saying just 'cause you can't I can't?" that's like accusing me of saying you can't do any thing I can't do. To me that's pretty insulting and self-centered.

Look, I don't wanna' belabor this. It's already gone on too long. If you didn't mean it that way, ok fine. We can move on, but seriously, I know there's a lot of misinformation about rosewood out there, but I do think you're a bit over the top about it. IMHO anyway.

I was attempting to lighten the mood with my graphite joke. I can see how this would annoy anyone who paid for the DN upgrade. No offense intended.

Just wanted to underline that I appreciate it when I get advice from you guys on the finer points of high end basses. All jokes aside, the info I get on TB has me playing better gear, with better tone than anything I have found in 18 years as a player.

I've spent a fortune but you should hear an AC KPB4 with tone knob at halfway, through a Genz Benz GBE1200 tube channel and an EA Wizzy 1x12. For someone as tragically obsessed with tone as I am, it's worth every penny.

I didn't say or mean ANYTHING as an insult to you or anyone else. I went the extra step of including smilies and the whole bit. I simply asked you a question and even went so far as to include the word EDIT -....

I just have ONE question for everybody who gives a damn...

Isn't it my RIGHT to be as over the top about as I want to be? If you don't like it, don't get it, or don't care....COOL! Just read right over it and say something under your breath or take a breath or something. Live and let live...Why should someone else decide how "over the top" I can or should or will be about anything I have to say...No offense but I see stuff that is over the top and just plain wrong on this site nearly everyday but I don't get involved in it anymore. I used to but I just don't do it anymore. If I want to talk about anything that is the current topic of a given thread why should I be any more limited in my right to speak as anyone else just because I say something you (or anybody else) don't like? Just live and let live...I let you say anything you like whether I agree with it or not...You have never heard me say that you were wrong about anything nor would I. You are entitled to say anything about anything just respect my right to do the same...If you hear me say something that is wrong and you know it is wrong PLEASE correct me and call me on it...but if not PLEASE give me the same freedom of thought and speech that you expect for yourself...

LOL...that is perfect! I wish I had found that...You know I have found that some of the DN has a VERY strong chocolate smell like the one Andrew got from me. The 3 TS I have now has a distinct sweet smell but it is not nearly as chocolaty as the first one I had...I would be curious if any others here have one that smells really chocolaty?

Peace,

T

I thought it was funny. :-/

+1. That was really well said.

I personally have been helped by guys on both side of this debate, and know them to be great guys. I see both sides, but don't see a reason to be upset.

The great philosopher, Marilyn Monroe, once said, "Never cry over anything that can't cry over you."

I think that statement is a wonderful way to keep things in perspective.

It is great to be passionate about things, but in the end, they are only things. Not people.

I'm glad people are working past this, 'cause Jason said Jimmy has a cat to let out of the bag this week, and I would rather talk about what it might be, and if anyone knows when it will be announced.
