Thanks! John, our guitarist has written most of our material. I tend to contribute changes or second melody B sections. In this case, it's entirely John's composition and it presents a bit of a challenge for me to solo over without running scales and arpeggios....


So I try to think dynamically with call and response and hopefully come up with melodic statements...

Ed Friedland's instructions on phrasing are a constant voice in my head...

Hopefully, I'll be able to stop thinking and start speaking....

You really did a smash up job on that video. Well thought out and orchestrated. Not frilly nor filled up with how good you are on the strings (and you are good). But rather you featured the Tom Clement aura of quality bass luthier workmanship. And out of your kitchen, too. Great job. Applause.

It just sort of occurs to me that if Ed needs to *learn* how to play a 6-string... I somehow have to learn how to play in the first place first *lol*

Yep, 32" scale 6 string fretted and fretless - steel and nylon stings - low B = no problems. From what I've read it also has a lot to do with the amps handling of that frequency.

Thanks Ed!

I know what you mean on the framing. The problem was, the camera was literally as far away as It could go, up against the far wall in the kitchen, and it still couldn't fit my head and the bass in shot (and I raised the bass up on the strap, I usually play a bit lower than that) Yes, my house IS that small!!!

Plus I have to either learn my script, or get a bit more confident on the freestylin' Spent way too much time looking down at my computer to see what I should say next!!

Many thanks! But I don't belong anywhere near Mr. Friedland. He is consummate musician of great artistry and skill who has has honed his craft into a profession.


I'm just a hack who has enough self study ( ironically from a few of Ed's books !) to attempt things musically. I have too much respect for Ed to accept even a modest comparison.
