Been playing this beauty exclusively (3 services a week plus a practice) for a month or two lately. I'm posting not for that reason, but this: I'm using a set of flats, and a fret wrap just behind the nut. The wonderful old-school tone of that combo on a fretless with a split PU is delightful to my ears. And in case anyone on this thread needed to be told, this bass 1) gets tons of comments from people who don't even care about gear and 2) Tom did me right with this super-sick and wonderful build that plays like a dream. :)

Wow! drool That is sweet! Everything looks perfect. The body and neck look like they were meant to be together.

Depending on finances next year I may do a fretless. Maybe a P/J or double P. Who knows what I'll be thinking then. :eyebrow:

I waited a year or so for the right top to pop up on his website. I went for it. Then, we were down to fingerboard woods. I picked Ipe for hardness and looks. Then we were down to color. He and I agreed that this particular board was a very good match for the body, and a different piece he had was not nearly as great a fit in terms of its shade of color.

Tom was careful to meet my request that the split be in the classic P position. When I saw the route for the split pu I was scared it was too close to the fb. He clarified that the distance from the nut was perfect, and the look is concerning because the bass has 24 stops - so the pu relative to the end of the board LOOKS too close, but it is in fact not too close. :) Tom knows what he is doing, and is quite good at it.

Godsbassmann: 6 strings, 34" is ok, but why 20 frets?! All of Tom's body shape are ideal for 24 frets, so anything shorter would be a "waste" of space unless you convince him to make a different body shape :D
Personally, I wouldn't sacrifice those extra frets unless there's a specific reason for it. Such as a special body shape for balance or something like that. Why did you want 20?

What specs I have today:
Darlene solid ash body, maple neck and fretted fingerboard
side dots black, bone nut, string tree(s), Hipshot satin bridge and ultralight tuners,sunken Dunlop strap locks, passive V/V/T and Nordstrand NJ6S humbucker ( Jazz pups with wood covers?) 16" fretboard radius.
Any comments?

#41 , most amazing neck profile . I'd call it asymmetrical but it's very unique and comfy .
