I know we all have our reasons, but I was very surprised to see you were considering letting this go. I've long admired this lined fretless. My first couple of fretless basses were all lined and this one I thought was especially appealing.

Hey Tom, I've been considering it for the last 2 years... I decide to sell it and then realise its such a beautiful instrument and I can't let it go!

It just comes down to me wanting other tones in my arsenal and not being able to afford to just keep adding to the collection! Unfortunately the fretless gets the least use by far, and despite me loving it when I do get to use it, it's hard to justify keeping it around!

I feel like a crazy person having all this internal dialogue! Keep, sell, keep, sell...

Enjoying playing this bass- makes my work so much easier !!!

Out of curiosity, why the Studio model?

Tom, I just remembered that the Studio had a big thick bottom end and I always loved the way they turned out when FBass was making them. I dont care about the 2 fewer frets on a bass like this as I'm a Fender kind of guy anyways.

We'll see in about 5 months:)

I see. Makes sense. Too bad it won't be ready for NAMM, that will be a great bass to show off.

This is one of my FAVORITE songs from Karel and his band... and one amazing sounding VF4 p-bass. Wow, that fundamental just rattles my rib cage.

I've thought about getting a VF5 made with a precision bass pickup and a music man humbucker... not because I want the tones together but so that I could solo either pickup and have a lot of versatility in one bass. Unfortunately health problems (particularly with my left hand) have me in decline / retire mode more than acquire / grow mode so that might not ever happen, but listening to Karel in this song sure makes me wish I could.

Hey guys. I have a '97 BN5 and from what I understand the pickups and maybe the preamp are different than what is used today in the BN5s. I love this bass, and am thinking about getting another. Could you guys explain a little of the differences in the old electronics and pickups vs the new stuff? Is the tone drastically different? Thanks in advance.

Hey guys, just wanted to let folks in this forum know that I have an alder Rosewood VF5 (Tom7's old bass) in mint condition with extras that I'm looking to trade for an ash Maple Jazz bass like a vf5, in case anyone here is interested. Here is the thread

What knob controls do you have? I had got bn5 which has tone knob which workes only when neck pickup is on and bridge one is off.
