I just picked up my first Sadowsky bass yesterday over in lovely L.I.C., N.Y.C! A pre-owned Will Lee NYC model.

It was a true pleasure meeting Kevin and Roger in person, and visiting the shop was a real treat. Such a friendly and professional operation.

I'm more and more impressed with this bass with each additional minute I spend playing it. It just oozes quality and craftsmanship in every way, from the gorgeous top and finish, to the impeccable setup and fretwork, the astonishingly quiet electronics (I've never had single coils with such low noise), the brilliantly fitted neck joint, and the incredibly solid feel, while being a very light bass.

It's also by far the easiest bass to play cleanly that I've ever held in my hands. This despite it being a very "alive," resonant instrument. It really wants to sing, but it's disciplined and pays attention to the choir director!

The weight balance is just perfect, and the matte-ish neck finish is just sooo comfortable. I think I underestimated just how much impact the extra-narrow nut on this model has as well... it's just so very easy to play and move around on this fingerboard. The low (but not compromisingly low) action doesn't hurt in keeping the speed limit at autobahn levels, either.

The array of sounds this bass can make is astonishing... and not a bad one in the bunch. Between the two different active circuits, the VTC, and even straight passive mode, this is truly a bass for the professional... I can't think of a situation where this bass couldn't fill the role required. It's just my chops that have to seize the opportunity now, with no roadblocks in the way!

Sure, it caused a couple of flutters in the old ticker when whipping out the AMEX for admission into this club, but I cannot imagine a better investment for my musical indulgence. Long after those dollars are no longer missed, I hope to hold this bass in my hands and let it be a facilitating conduit for my emotion, expression, and creativity. It's an inspiring instrument, an inspiring company, and an inspiring man behind it all.

So this bass joins a Pedulla Pentabuzz, a Modulus Q5, and an older 4-string Stambaugh bass in my stable, along with some other junky basses. If this love affair keeps up, though, I can see the first two easily falling to Sadowsky replacements over the next couple of years.

I forgot Roger makes straight P-basses also. I've been seriously thinking lately about picking up a 5 string P-bass. I was looking at Fender's and AC's 5 string P's. I may have to rethink that a bit. I've had a few NYC PJ5's which I loved; I just want a "real" straight P-bass.

Are the bodies standard sizes -- Or are they downsized like the JJ basses are? Do they cop a pretty convincing P tone? I'd be going with Alder/Rosewood.

The body is standard size. The Nordy P5 pickup is killer. Mine is alder/braz rw.

I had occasion to have a 62' Pbass alongside my beloved alder/braz RW PJ5. The body size of my PJ5 was about the same size as the 62' P, and to my ears the tone was nearly identical. I look at this bass as a modern take on a vintage pbass, but with the ability to kick in the bridge pickup and EQ to get all kinds of sounds.

Granted, not a 'straight p', but I personally don't think it makes much difference tonally. Dial in that neck pickup and it's every bit a Pbass IMO/IME.

As kobass said, the P5 body is standard size. Both of mine have alder bodies which of course are chambered by default: light weight, but tone is not compromised (might even be enhanced).

As for convincing P tone: that depends on how fussy you are. Sadowsky basses have the Sadowsky tonal signature and the P5 is no exception, but IMO that's a good thing, and both of mine have great P-bass vibe. Other bass players are sometimes surprised to find out that I'm not playing Fender. I use aggressive tones for rock, but mine are also fantastic for classic rock, blues, Motown R&B. I've got rounds on 'em now, but they sound especially phat with phlats.

Thank you Lee...it's an honor to grace your wall along with all the heavy hitting Sadowsky lovers!! Psst, hey Roger, over here to your left... LOVE your basses!!! I hung out and drooled and read and listened on the side lines til i just HAD to have one. Though I love my "Sexy Sadie" I'm STILL getting to know her. She is my go to bass. I've never had buyers remorse and look forward to my second (third, fourth, etc..) at some point. Thanks to YOU ALL I'm a proud Sadowsky Player.

So I just got off the phone with Kevin a few minutes ago and ordered my first Sadowsky bass. A Metro MV4-HPJ in LPB. I'm SO STOKED about it. I played a similar bass at Atlanta Bass Gallery a few months ago and out of the dozen high end basses I played it was the only one that really sang... enough even my wife stopped reading to say "Wow, that one sounds really good. It's a noticeable difference..."
I've been lingering around this thread for a while now... guess I'll be back in 5 months or so, lol.
Now comes the hard part, waiting.
