Cocky "musicians" in the Audience.

Saturday night we played a really great show at a bar, and as we were setting up, one of our guitarists sat down to restring his guitar. Some idiot came up and started harassing him about changing his strings and how its a terrible idea before a show... then he asks, "so does your bass player play a 4 string or is he a real man and plays a 5?" I just stood there, staring at him (lace covered boobies and all) and simply said "4 string." He looked at me like I was scum and said "oh, don't worry, one day you can be a real bassist, like me." I almost hit him. What a douche. Since when did number of strings equal skill?

He sat at his table sulking for the rest of the night while I tore it up (obviously he realized that this little 4 string girl can get around a fretboard), and all his friends were cheering for the "hot bass girl" while he just sat there looking like a little bitch. It made me feel so good. I don't understand why some people try to intimidate others with fictional crap, acting like some music god. I would never approach a band and try to establish my prowess when I am but an audience member.

Anyone else ran into little dweebs like that? What do you do?

Sounds like a real winner.

Being drunk (if he was) doesn't excuse any behavior. He has to make himself feel better by putting other people down. Classic. You could have said something like 'well, unlike you, I'm not playing with myself tonight.'

A 'real driver' would have a 6 cylinder vehicle. Same thing. He has a small penis, no doubt.

People like that try to feel better about themselves by puting down others. Trying to get in your head before the gig and then saying out loud" I knew ..... they would suck"
So good for you letting your work do the talking!
"Those of us who can Do, those who can't bitch"

Well, I am in the military, and in an aviation community that sees few females... I think my place of employment has definitely turned me off on virtually all men that act like that, just because I work with so many of em! :hiding:

But show me a deeply intellectual musician with an appreciation for aircraft and I may fall victim!

Ok... I cannot claim to have any big appreciation for aircraft. However, I just finished watching a BBC series hosted by Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickenson called "Flying Heavy Metal." It was put out probably 4-5 years ago, and was a documentary about the history of commercial jet airplanes. Really interesting, and worth checking out!

I hate it when other people "disrespect" musicians period. If you are going to criticize..why bother checking out the band at all, since you obviously have more "taste"?

There are incredible female musicians out there. When people "assume" girls can't play...it drives me nuts. I have seen lots of girls play and kick some butt too.

Good for you Killer N for sticking it out and playing your heart out while this dumb fool wishes he were part of your band. I'm rooting for you!

Jeez, what an idiot! I'm with you, I much prefer playing 4 string myself. And yeah, 4 string bassists aren't real musicians, like Jaco Pastorius, Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, and lest we forget a certain Victor Lemonte Wooten... And so many more. What an idiot... :rollno: I've never had that problem when I play though, fortunately...

I can do more with 4 strings than you with 5.

If you're so good why do you need extra strings?

You've only got four fretting fingers, unless you are the man who killed my father. Prepare to die!

Ok the last one is a ringer from Princess Bride but the other two might work. He was probably just some toolbag without any decent pickup lines trying to flirt with you. Have fun!

And away we go! :D

You should have played the whole night on one or two strings, and kicked ass.
