Custom Bass Wait Support Group Needed [Part 3]

After I reviewed the Fodera Yin Yang Standard and Yin Yang Standard II, I fell in love with both, but couldn't decide which one I liked better. So, I asked my friends at Fodera to dial me up something in the middle, and this is what we came up with:

Delivery is expected tomorrow! :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :bassist:

Wow Tom, that is a beauty. I've played the YYS I and it was a blast. So growly and percussive. It's hard not to want to go nuts slapping on that thing. I also played one of the "New Standards" from about 20 years ago that had EMGs and a Haz preamp. I don't know the story on those basses but it was a bit different than the YYS I but essentially had the same vibe. Slap and staccato playing just had notes flying off the fingerboard. So much fun.

Anyway, I haven't posted in this thread in a long time but I'm back in the support group.

I’ve owned a number of basses over the years starting with my first electric, a beat up Guild B301. Carvin, Fender, EBMM, Lakland, Lull, Pedulla, Fbass, ACG, Rob Allen, Zon, Warwick and a number of others I’m forgetting along with all the other basses I’ve tried out over the years. But once I got my first Stambaugh I had the bug.

For me there’s something really addictive about being able to completely design a bass from the ground up – woods, electronics, shape, neck profile, radius and pretty much any other aspect. Chris is about as custom a builder as any and his necks fit my hands better than any I’ve ever played and are rock solid and stable. I’ve owned a few from him now but I’m down to three. I’ve now got a hollowbody with a really vintage thump, my version of a 70’s Jazz with SS rounds, and my take on a modern P bass (wenge neck, Aero custom pickup) strung with TI Jazz Flats

So, having moved a lot of gear over the last year and saved up some gig money I decided to get what I hope are my last two basses. A modern NT fiver with chambered walnut body wings, ebony board and the new Aguilar Super Double pickups and a fretless five string that combines my favorite things about the fretless basses I’ve loved from Fbass, Pedulla & Roscoe. Chambered maple body wings, maple neck & fingerboard, polyester fingerboard finish and Bart quad coils and NTMB.

Here’s my custom body shape:

The maple burl top for the fretless

Which will get a brownburst finish

And be a coated, maple fingerboard fretless.

Chris is about to start the neck glue ups so I’m guessing I have 3-4 months before they are done. Cue Tom Petty ("The waiting is the hardest part . . .")

Wow, those basses look so cool! I like that body shape, a lot. I had the privilege of meeting Chris for the first time at Summer NAMM this year, and I really enjoyed it. His basses played like butter, and sounded great, too. After the SNAMM Show, I ended up having him reshape a neck on one of my basses, and he did an amazing job. Those new basses are going to be off the hook!

well, I'm out. I was fortunate enough to stop by the shop and give well wishes in person today for Carl's birthday. Always a pleasure to see carl. He stamped my 5 string that I picked up last week!

wait over...now what? oh yeah...time to PLAY!!!

surprising to me that the only bass I've gotten in the now 7 yrs and a month since this post was another Carl Thompson on order that I got about a week after this. I still have both basses and actually killed my GAS. Wonder how many of the basses in this thread are still owned by the poster?

I'm back in here! I've ordered two more basses from Martin Keith. One will be a fretless 5 with jazz pickups, the other a fretted 5 with P and MM pickups. More details soon! :)

Edit: hard to see the date...my last two were ordered in 2010 and received in 2011.

I still have these two, and the two I ordered before them. I'll hit my ten year anniversary with my first this year. None are going anywhere.

I've sold 1 bass from here. Not planning on selling current build.
....im still waiting. Bass was going to ship Monday but we thought it would be better to wait until snow storm passes though north east. Here are some pics

@Nomad98 Thank you. I agree completely. Can't wait to play it. It really turned out beautiful. From what I've been told, it plays and sounds as good as it looks. Roasted Birdseye neck is ridiculous. The fingerboard is kingwood. It has nice figure to it that wasn't captured well in these pics. Here is a better image of the fingerboard.

Put a deposit on a Stambaugh six-string, semi-hollowbody fretless build last October, then another deposit on a six-string fretless Emerald Balor acoustic at the end of this January. The Balor should be ready early June, the Stambaugh may begin around then. The Balor isn't very custom though, just the sixth string and the 12" radius. The Stambaugh will be completely custom, using my own design for the body and a Moses carbon graphite neck. I'm hoping it will be ready in the autumn sometime . . . .

I have a custom precision bass on order. It is based on a 1974 precision but not an exact replica. The bass is built by my luthier. Francois Beausejour from lutherie Quatre-temps. He is an amazing luthier. The bass should be assembled and ready for finishing by the end of next week.

here are the specs:
Alder body.
Quartersawn neck and fretboard.
Hipshot vintage bridge and HB2 tuners.
Lauzon custom P pickup
I haven't decided the finish yet. I'm actually thinking about Trans Walnut or Sage green metallic finish.
