Big challenge, not so easy. Not nearly as easy as it sounds. It is easy to learn a tune. It is difficult to master one and make it yours.
After all the tapes dry up, the records and cd's scratch out, and the hard drives melt down, the musician with his own tune in his heart still delivers and passes the tunes on.
You got lucky and caught the wind. Fly.

Whaddya talking about? It's not even cold out for winter. Stop whining! It was like 40 degrees today. Summer in Iceland fer cryin out loud!
I did Katahdin years ago. My scientist x-g/f and I. We stayed well hydrated, took about 18 beers up and back. The load got lighter the further we hiked.

Ok, Half a day off. Dr's appt. He said I was fine other than being a little off kilter mentally. My other Dr. is a sax player, he gets it. Good to have a second opinion.
My wife said I should wear a 'Jimmyhat' but apparently people all over the forums already are. lol.
Jam tomorrow night. I still didn't get any mp3's from last week. I have to start bringing my own recorder.
Went to a 'audition/jam' Sat night. Some people I met at open mike a year ago. Rough. Wanted 2 nights a week to do covers rehearsals. Ain't gonna happen. I will have to tell them politely, get you s*** together and if you still need a bassist, call me 2 weeks before the gig, that's what I need to prep to do the Turtles and Fisherman's Daughter so I can adapt my off time to your off time and we can agree on everything. That will never happen though.
Big celebration coming up!!!!
I plan on hiding out the whole time though! 
If I disappear a while, it's cause I am [DEL]home sleeping[/DEL] out partying.

I made a pretty sweet decision. This time next year, I will be at Springer Mountain in Georgia, going on a trek to Mt. Katahdin, Maine. It's gonna be fun. Conditioning and gearing up begins next week.

I know that feeling. It's like exercising. Just lay down and take a nap till the feeling goes away.
My take is that playing bass 1 hour in ensemble is worth 10 hours of wanking in the basement by yourself. YMMV etc.
Damn, that is quite the challenge there. I did consider doing that when I listened to it yesterday. If I can figure out what the chords are, I can lay down a bass line for it. Singing..well, I don't have a great singing voice, but I get what you are saying. I will do my best.

So, I've decided to start working out for real again because I see a gut growing that needs to gtfo. I'm balancing this with homework, bass, and other randomness, and honestly I feel less irritated in general with people.
Hah, when mine slips the leash I usually end up in a fight with someone. Usually the closest person. Fortunately its (now) a rare occurence
Well I did come to the conclusion tonight (last night) that my finger-style needs a lot of work. I can use it in public for slower pieces but I convinced myself that night that my timing is considerably more consistent and accurate when playing with a pick.
I was playing through "Some Kind of Wonderful" which I can play but playing finger style it just sound flat and sloppy. Played it again with a Pick and liked it considerably better. At the last rehearsal the singer was not happy with the sound of it but didn't know why. Now I think I know. It's on the list again this week and maybe I will save it from elimination when I play it tonight.

The other day as I was playing I did the best self examination that I could of my playing. I've been seriously trying to become a real bass player for a little over a year.
First the good.
My ear is developing well in that I've gotten to the point that I can sit down with my bass and figure out most songs.
I've learned a lot of different patterns and my walking bass in particular is sounding better.
My time is good and I'm can lock in with drummers. (Although at this point I've been doing this mostly with my drum students.)
The not so good.
My playing is sloppy. I've concentrated on playing songs and patterns so that I can play along with other people and play at a decent speed. But my tone is lousy. My right hand needs more work as well.
This is all fixable. Now that I can play a lot of different things I need to really slow it down and concentrate on technique and tone. I know what I need to do.
