A lot of boats were going into the water at this time of year:Sounds like an awesome trip, Chuck. I'm jealous...look at all that awesome wood......:sigh:
hi all - I mentioned earlier this week that I was going up to Upton Bass and would post pics, so here they are. Upton is in Stonington, CT, on Long Island Sound, right by the CT-RI border. It is in Thor's part of the world, but he is in South Africa, so it didn't work out to get together.
Anyway ... drove up last night from Brooklyn and was at Upton Bass first thing this morning -

Upton is indeed "upright heaven," although perhaps not the kind that Furry Monkey has in mind -

my bass needed a string change and a couple of minor repairs ... who better to take it to than the folks who made it, right here in the USA? They are great people and treat their customers very well.
The work was going to take a couple of hours, so I went into the village of Stonington, which is a *very* cool colonial-era village right on the water. The houses are all very old and distinctive ... I couldn't decide which to photo so I punted on that, and just took a pic at water's edge instead:

I really like Stonington ... all it's lacking is a CWB to hang out with!A lot of boats were going into the water at this time of year:

... and then it was time to head back to Upton and pick up my bass - now playing great - and head back to Brooklyn.

But how does it get upright? Do you have to rub a violin?

I think I would probably look silly with an upright... Not really my genre.
