Oh man, I was just listening to some of my older SC entries. I wish I would've held onto my Peavey Hot Foot. That thing would've killed in the Bloop. Dang.
I haven’t spent much time with my Bloop, but like many, I started with dirt, and it was good.
Rummaging through one of my shelves the other week I came upon my Subdecay Prometheus. Haven’t had it out in a while, but I LOVE this filter. When I did use it I always had to stay in LPF mode, BP and HPF we’re useless on bass without a blend. I am very interested in putting the Prometheus in the Bloop.
I'd started sessioning with some older prog gentlemen so I've been using the Loop Blender differently within that context. My favorite is using the Thickerizer method and sending the Blooped signal into the Micro-tron III. Gets some nice full sweeps that I can also better control with the Gain. Helps it trigger with 8th notes too. I've also been adding slight compression to the Loop Blender with the HXFX signal chain. The Loop Blender through FX Loop 1 and the Smoothie in FX Loop 2 then just split the signal path and place the Bloop > Comp in Path B. The Bloop's tube-y warmth into the compressor creates a punchy tight bottom under everything. Simple but can't believe I hadn't done it sooner!!

Just ordered the new special edition: Aluminum and Oxblood Mmmmmm. I'm going to try running two MBDs....been wanting to do that for while! Gona turn the gain trim all the way up on one and leave one stock as an always on or something to that effect 
The new Para Drive is super sick but I gotta be real here. MBD is king.
If two prove to be overkill I'll put it up for sale/trade.

That’s why I use my MBD strictly for OD and the para drive for straight up raunch dist.

Oh my god that is absolutely adorable.
It’s not just a clean blend. It’s filtered so it meshes with whatever you’re throwing into better IMO. It doesn’t sound like 2 signals going together at once. If you blend a tube screamer or a rat, it mixes your filtered low end in with it and it just sounds more natural. To my ears with my setup, it’s almost like adding a fat tube amp sound to whatever your put in the loop. It warms things up a bit. Fattens them. Obviously blends them. Just in a really pleasing way.
And that’s just the loop. If you choose to leave it on at all times, it will actually give your entire signal some beef and warmth. Like me. Instead of leaving on whatever is in the loop on at all times and stomping the Bloop when I want what’s in the loop, I leave the Bloop on all the time and stomp whichever dirt I want to use at any given time. So the Bloop is adding it’s warmth and booty to my signal at all times. It’s so sweet. Nice n bloomy. Not dirty mind you. Clean. Like I said, to me, it kinda tubifies your signal. Which is a great thing for solid state amp users. But it still excels with tube heads as well. Hope that made sense. It’s always been difficult for me to describe exactly what the Bloop does to my setup. It’s one of things you just have to try.
I thought the price tag was a little steep too when I first learned of it. But after I got one, looked inside and realized what it does and offers, totally worth it IMO. It’s a staple for me now.

YW!! And that is most def not what the Bloop is or does. The LS2 is awesome in its own right depending on what you’re using it for. But the Bloop is low passed I believe it is. So that cuts some highs and it makes it blend really well with whatever you’re blending. It’s very natural sounding to me. Not like 2 signals running in parallel with one another.
Depends on how you use it.... I don't hear any highs being rolled off with mine. I use it to add some clean/thick low end back into my signal path. I'm in the process of shrinking my pedalboard again - I've been somewhat happy with a VT Bass set for aggressive metal tones, but never was thrilled with the low end of the pedal. The Bloop fixes that problem completely. The manual states the roll off is somewhere around 1khz. It might be my favorite pedal at this point.
Here's just a few options, hopefully this will help in understanding what it does:
- Off OR On with Clean blend at 0 and no(OR off) pedal(s) in the loop = does nothing
- On - Clean blend > 0 and no (OR off) pedal(s) in the loop = Adds a 1k Low Pass Filter of Input signal
- On - Clean blend >0 and pedal(s) on in the loop = signal from loop and Adds a 1k Low Pass Filter of Input signal
- On - Clean blend at 0 and pedal(s) on in the loop = signal from loop
Toggle phase switch to taste

If you are worried about mud, regardless of the Bloop, then I suggest to use HPF. Start at around 40 Hz and work your way up.
Yes, the pedal is very clean. There is no dirt or gain added. It does impart it character onto your signal though. Its own voice. It’s not an “effect” in the traditional sense. It’s more like an enhancer in that regard. But it’s still a utility pedal in that it’s a blender and a looper.
When I first got the MBD and the Bloop, I thought they would muddy up my tone honestly. I thought they darkened it too much. But once you get it on your board, set up and dialed in, they do anything but “muddy” your tone. All enhancement IME. It’s all about the filtering Jeff has designed into these circuits. He did a phenomenal job designing the way these pedals interact with your signal. So when you first get the Bloop, or even the MBD1 one day!
, give it some time. They are unlike most other pedals out there. I didn’t get the greatest feeling from the MBD the first few min I plugged it in. But I needed to learn how it worked, what it was doing and how it was doing its thing. Once I did, I was sold.
