Damnation Audio Fan/Appreciation Thread

Maybe it isn't the best example because it is used here in a band setting. I tried to pick a song that had some bass present. But this record is all D2.
Maybe it's helpful. Warning, we are loud.

Okay, that sounds exactly like what I was looking for. Sort-of a "smashing" kind of high-gain distortion. :D Cheers!

I sold my curmudgeon as it just didn’t have enough low end compared to my mbd1 and kind of made it redundant if I used the mbd1 as my distortion and wasn’t the “ fuzz” texture compared to my jc fuzz wah. Keep in mind I play fingers and it could just be my “setup” *shrug*. Funnily enough all the demo’s I hear of it being played with a kick sound awesome so YMMV

I personally don't understand how anyone can say that the D2 doesn't have low end. I get that I don't have your rig and have little idea what that is like. But I literally have the switch depth turned to the brighter setting and the tone about 2/3 towards bright on that recording. It is just not possible to say that the recording doesn't have low end. IMO, the D2 has a ton of low end capability. I believe that people dial in amps by their pedal board. And don't dial in their amps and then adjust the pedals to suit. It's a dance... I know. Maybe the D2 doesn't have enough low end if you're going direct into an interface, but the D2 has equivalent if not more low end than most dirt pedals.

I agree with the both of you to an extent. @deff I agree people tend to set up their pedalboard as their main sound and that’s where the D2 can start to feel like it loses low end. I think that the farther toward the end of my chain I put the D2, it makes everything after it a lot tighter if I keep the depth switch on the bright setting.

@theunknowndude I think that the bright setting on the D2 cuts out some of the ultra low stuff that would be felt other than heard through a cabinet, but if you used a bloop or changed your EQ to be more bass-heavy at the end of the chain then you might have had more success with the D2

I definitely notice how it tightens up the low end vs having it off when it’s at the very end of the chain or if it’s the only pedal in the chain. Not saying it’s bad though! It doesn’t kill the lows, it just really tightens up the lows IMO

Speaking of curmudgeons, I went to Reverb to check Damnation content and saw this thing of beauty...

I get what you saying but I don’t want another bloop or another blend pedal though… that’s an extra pedal on an already cramped board… I don’t want compressed right low - I want as good as or deeper than my original bass tone :) - mbd1 fits that bill so felt like curmudgeon to have a “different grain/ bright tone of dirt” was no point that’s all.
For a point of reference - I “felt” ehx green muff reissue had more lows and the fuzz in my jc wah had more lows without needing a clean blend… anyway just my opinions - like I said every demo I’ve heard with a pick sounds awesome but didn’t work for me as a finger player and in comparison to other pedals I already used.

Hey folks. I've seen some mention there's a bit of difference tone wise between the mbd-1 and mbd-2, just wondering what those differences are? I had an mbd-2 in the past that I liked but had to sell for financial reasons at the time. An mbd-1 has popped up on the used market locally so I'm tempted to pick it up.

Not much tonal difference. It's just the pots and values vary so you more than likely won't get the same sound if you set the 1 and 2 the exact same. For instance. But they are pretty much the same pedal. I personally like the 1 more because I can find "my" tone quick. The 2, it took me a min, but I was able to eventually. They are virtually the same pedal. the 2 is just a lot smaller and has an added boost.

What amps are you all using with the spite box?
I’m mostly using pedal preamps through a power amp so I’m running it toward the end of my chain & letting the power amp handle the bass boost. I feel like most preamps start to overload when subjected to heavy low freq like that.
I own some ampeg and fender tube amps but I haven’t used the spite box through them yet

I've been using a 400RB with a 2x12 or 2x15. It's choice.
