Damnation Audio Fan/Appreciation Thread

I got home too late to get my PD outta the apt office dammit. Ah well, tomorrow morning. But then I’m going to see Tool tomorrow so I won’t get much time with it then either! But at least in seeing Tool!!

Wow! Tomorrow is going to be a great day for you! Tool is playing two new songs on this tour! Tool is a favorite of mine. Jealous!

You guys, this pedal is nuts. I like it better today than yesterday. The wife and son went out for the morning so I was able to really try it out. I tried it with several (almost all) of my basses that are in different tunings for different bands/genres. I was able to dial in GOOD usable tones on each bass.

This isn't just a honeymoon phase either. I feel I've owned and tried enough pedals in my day to know when I really like something. When I say that this pedal is like the X7 I mean I dial it in the same way and it's just as versatile.

1. I turn all the knobs all the way down and start with the distorted side.
2. I turn distorted level up some, and then dial in the amount of distortion drive I want with the gain
3. I then do the same thing on the clean side
4. Once I find my amounts I adjust levels to taste. (for higher gain you can turn the clean gain up more, and it adds some more sizzle and compression)
5. Once I find what I'm going for (slight grit, high drive etc), this is the cool part: you can use the level knobs like high and low tone controls. If you want more sizzle on the fly turn up the distorted level, for more bottom end turn up the clean level. Leave the gain knobs alone. You maintain the same level of distortion/clean, just add or take away some from the mix. You get the gist. So cool. And thats what I mean that it's like the X7.

I like this pedal just as much as the MBD, and as time goes on, I might like it more. To me, it seems to cop similar tones and more. The controls interact with each other, but not in a way that gets stupid and unpredictable. I did a little customization to mine with some DA stickers I had, and I think some Hilbish knobs are on the horizon as well and maybe a little engraving. I really need to get my act together and try an IG demo as well.

I hear you. I live 1hr 45min south of Portland. They get lots of good concerts on work nights but it's just far enough away to be a pita and make for a grueling next day at work. Just last Tuesday High on Fire played at a small club that I've played at. Couldn't believe they'd play at that place. Woulda been cool, so I totally feel ya. Ten years ago it would be no question.

Exactly. I don't drink so even sober, going on 40, staying up till 1 or 2 and having to wake up at 530, it's almost worse than a hangover! haha So I opt out unless it's a weekend night. Which is fine, Tool was at open air this year and I saw where my buddy who got the tickets ended up. I could never stand huge stadium shows. Too many people, the band is so far away. It's almost like, what's the point. That's just me and how I am. I sacrifice seeing a lot of good bands that way. But it makes up for it when I see bands I love like O'brother play the Empty Bottle or Royal Blood or Baroness @ the Metro. I'd much rather pay money for that. Maybe I sound pretentious but it's a much more enjoyable show for me.

Not at all. I completely agree. It's not a "I knew them before they were cool" thing for it; it's just that larger venues are so impersonal when you've seen the same bands in smaller ones.

Finally got my PD. So far, I love the dist side!! In LED mode it’s so ripping and gnarly and saggy in a great way. It’s wicked good. The OD side is so dark though. But then, I felt that way about the MBD when I first plugged it in. Plus my tone is super chimey. So I think I just need to adjust to it. But so far I like it. It’s gonna take the place of my Rat Tail for the time being. See where it goes. Heck, I could probably use the PD as a fuzz if I wanted. It gets quite dirty. Just like a good rat should. More to report but so far, I dig. And I’m proud and happy to have 3 Damnation pedals onboard now!

Oh, and I’m really happy I added the two extra clippers. So many more tones. So many more ways to get different sounds. And I’m surprised, I don’t think I’m gonna miss a tone knob or EQ. Between the left side and the clippers, there’s my EQ and tone shaping. It’s great.

Sucks I won’t be seeing Tool but great that you are! Agreed, I have seen them in small venues and also at festivals... they are so not a festival band. Being able to be immersed in their visuals and up front sound makes them so much better!

Off topic, but one of the best shows I ever saw was Iron Maiden in a smallish club in NYC (The Ritz) in 1992 when they were warming up Janick Gers, who was new.

I ended up not going. I saw my buddies position on the lawn. WAY out there. I’m sure it was cool but I don’t think I missed much. Maybe when/if they tour for the new one coming in August.

It looks awesome as-is, but might as well order the small oxbloods and try it, because they looked killer on it as well. Already halfway there, having the large ones and all.

I’m still learning it. But yeah, you’re right. The left side, for me so far, is like the clean blend in the MBD a little. It’s not that. But that’s sorta how I’m using the left side. It is pretty nuts how many colors and variations you can get with what’s there. Again, I’m very glad I added those clippers. I almost use them as tone controls or EQ. It’s cool.

It looks awesome as-is, but might as well order the small oxbloods and try it, because they looked killer on it as well. Already halfway there, having the large ones and all.

Yeah I ordered a couple small oxbloods so we’ll see. I really like how that color bounces off the chrome. It seems to just look right.

I need to get this in with a band still but I don’t think it’s gonna side any issues in a mix. I’m still pretty surprised how there’s no need for a tone control. That made me really nervous. But it doesn’t. It’s possible to find all that in what’s there. I love it! It’s a rat but it’s not. It’s just an awesome bass dist.
