Damnation Audio Fan/Appreciation Thread

I have to agree with you @donahue too, it actually is a lot like the X7. In the ways you described but it actually sorta works as a Xover dist. Not that it is that. But it has some of the same characteristics as one to my ears. It's all about mixing the 2 sides together. That left side can make the left side really hefty and full of weight while at the same time the right side is rippin and pillaging and tearing at the top with some sweet ratty dist. They are very complimentary. So to me it's almost like a Xover dist in a way. It's one of those pedals you don't want to stop playing.

I recorded some clips yesterday but they sound like poopie. I'll try to get some DI recordings tonight and share them here.

About that mod: isn't the TS on the Drive side on the guitar version? How would you "get it over" to the Dist (Rat) side? I've built the bass version and love it. With my second PCB I'd like to try something else on the Dist side, the Bass Drive side is just perfect as is, I wouldn't want to mess with that. But some other flavor of dirt on the right seems like a good idea for a second built. I need to take a closer look .....

Anyway, I finally decided on what diodes to leave in there and took the PD to the practice space, put it on a board and ran it through some big amps ... oh boy, oh boy, it rips!!!

Yep, way I understand it, it wasn't moved over. My Clean side is now on the right and overdrive on the left. So the rat side was modded to clean blend and the clean side modded to drive. If I understand correctly (from Jeff) it was easier and made more sense to do it that way, from the pcb standpoint.

The ParaDrive v1 track was clipping a bit but I dug the effects you threw in on that one. This second track is clearer... That's interesting about the left or OD side. It handles the lows (like the Loop Blender) and also has Gain?

Yeah it's weird. But I thought the MBD was weird when I first got it. I have the bass ver too remember. The left side is almost like a dirty blend. I can dime the gain and I really will only get dirt from it in one clipping position. The other two it just seems to change the way it accepts my clean signal. And it's very dark and dubby, not really usable for me by itself. But you blend that into the dist side and it's glorious. I always have a hard time explaining what I'm hearing with Jeff's pedals because they aren't like most other pedals I've ever tried. In a good way though. It's like both sides need each other. The dist side could probably get by alone in the stock clipping position, but if I put it in LED or the other one, it'll lose a lot of bottom.

You also have to remember I still haven't got in with a band yet. So things could change a bit at that point.

Ok thanks, I see now... Sounds like the Para Drive is a thing of beauty. I wasn't sure if you guys were using or needed the Loop Blender with it. Between the mods and the guitar and bass versions I got confused as to what was affecting what.. Having something that lets you dial in solid lows like the Loop Blender that also adds dirty breakup in "parallel" to distortion would be awesome

I just switched which side was low passed. So the standard bass mod has the TS side low passed and @donahue's version has the rat side low passed.

The design was made to work with the clipping in the schematic but the beauty of making your own is you can do 1000000 different clipping mods to varying degrees of success.

It's a simple design that's infinitely tweakable. I just picked my favorite tweaks as suggested versions.

Glad people are digging it. Makes me want to explore the circuit again at some point.

Thanks gentlemen, I get it now, tweakers' paradise, eh? It might be a simple but also a very clever design!

I guess, I'll just put sockets all over the place and have fun!

Yeah I know! I think if I didn’t put the barefoot button on it, the Davies would work a little better. I still love the oxbloods, but the other ones seem to fit it better.

I know!! I’m kinda torn. I really like the way the Davies look. But the other ones fit this enclosure better I think.

I agree with the others that the silver and black ones just go better with that pedal.
