I seem to remember that somebody made some tiny, tiny tubes for a while that were called microtubes. Somewhere I have a lapel pin with one stuck on it that I think I got from Seymour Duncan. If I can find it, I'll post a photo.

When I saw the term used by Darkglass, I first wondered whether the design was utilizing some of them... but obviously not.

IIRC, FET's have been demonstrated in the R&D labs using carbon nanotubes. Here is a link for reference:

Carbon nanotube field-effect transistor - Wikipedia

One of those cool things that is sitting on the shelf until some national urgent crisis comes up that requires us to actually build the infrastructure to make use of it. Just like the vacuum tube, come to think about it.

I don't think that is what I'm talking about... I'll have to try to find it and post the photo. This thing looked like a normal vacuum tube but was maybe 1/2 inch long.

BTW, I smile every time I see your username. A friend of mine who teaches in the religion department at a large university once gave a test with an extra credit question - What is the name of Alexander the Great's horse? I think a correct answer bumped the student a grade on the exam.

You thinking of Invalid Link Removed? First came to market in the 40s. Zvex and markbass both use them but I don't know of many other MI uses. Nuvistors are smaller but don't really look like tubes.

Okay. I Remember those lapel pins with subminiature tubes.

Fuzzy memory, not logic, but I seem to recall receiving one when I bought an SWR Studio 220 head.

Could very well be wrong but Seymour Duncan doesn't spark any cobweb cover ups in my memory. Possibly even Groove Tubes that SWR commissioned.

I'm going to use a 1U tray for mine. The one with the holes on the bottom. Originally I was going to drill and tap my own rack ears but then Mark Michel (of Scale the Summit) on LowEndUniversity.com mentioned that he just mounted his to that tray. I'm gonna remove the rubber feet and then rack it.
