I’m not a huge fan of colored finishes in general but that thing is stunning. I’ve always preferred wood tops. That green one though...ugh. I want it so badly, steep price tag though
I feel the same. I think having to pay for the extra set of pups just pushes it over the top. But man. If I needed that rig!!! It’s still worth it vs waiting 18 months
Bare in mind as well that Dingwall prices have seen a 5-10% increase each year for the last couple and I imagine it will be a continuing trend
Yeah the extra pickups is a bummer because I don’t think your average guy is swapping his pickups in and out often. Probably just pick the ones you like and leave it, then you’re stuck with the others. I think if he didn’t sell the extra pickups and sold it for maybe 6900 it would be gone in a second
I want a Z3 pretty badly but I have to say the more I play my NG, the more I’m surprised by how pleased I am with it haha.

Every couple pages needs a strings question!
Has anyone used the La Bella Vapor Shield strings? It's high time I restring my duo so I'm looking at the options.
Bass Direct has the La Bellas, Dingwall brand, and Payson's that all fit the 37" basses. Since I'm cheap and I just don't enjoy restringing, I'm considering the Vapor Shields for my ABZ6, but only if they will truly actually last longer than the standard Dingwall nickels.
I know there's also Newtone, but I'm hesitant to get into custom gauges and different cores because that's a total rabbit hole.
I like the feel of the Dingwall nickels. Flexible but not flabby, smooth, balanced. Ideally, there would be something out there that was closer in feel to the old Dingwall steels that were around before Sheldon and company got the new line of nickles and steels together; there was something about the tension where they were more flexible and sort of 'softer', if you will, under the fingers, but still nice and tight, sort of like Kalium, except you could, you know, actually buy them and be guaranteed they'd ship in a timely manner.

Cool. From the look of it you're somewhere in the 2007-2009 or so range? It's got the earlier iteration of the custom knobs and the Levy's gig bag of that era as well. I can't quite remember the Serial Number spread, but early 4's may be more like 09 or so?

Funny. That has been discussed already. I don’t think I will as tempting as it be. I think that logic is like paying an extra $2000 US for something I already have but in green..... I don’t like green that much.
That said I’ve been trying to refrain from mentioning that I have been considering selling my 5 strong for other reasoning though but 2 things will be steadfast points in my decision on that.
1. I know how damn expensive it will be to replace if I ever decided to do with that I won’t be “giving” it away.
2. I have to have completed decided that I’ll be sticking with 6 strings moving forward on the long scale. My 6 gets 75% of my play time now and honestly certain things I am doing on it are a strain that only a shorter scale bass would solve which is not a 6 string Dingwall option.....
Oh choices. If I do sell I know Theresa no coming back from that decision so it’s pretty heavy.

Jumping to 6 full time is a big choice for sure. I’ve been playing 13 years and I’ve finally just committed to 5 string full time haha
I started on a 5 and never really did commit to a 4.
This one but like I said I’m pretty far from commiting to the thought and honestly there is a bit of a dibs line lol.
I tried them once (on a non-Dingwall). Wasn't blown away by the tone, but I don't remember specifics. I might have some soundclips recorded; I'll see if I can find them. Either way, I didn't have them long enough to comment on the longevity.
Thanks for the info. The last time I tried different strings and actually thought they had something that set them apart was the Dunlop Super Bright nickels on my SP5. They maintained that fresh-string gankiness even after they had lost some of their brightness, if that makes any sense. Too bad they don't make those long enough or tapered.
My Super Pj 5 is number 4099,
And the super fatty neck pickup says: 2008. But mine has the magnetic battery hatch. Same era gig bag. I think mine was new in 2009.
Here’s what I have for pickup wiring. I wired my Super fatties to series, which is easy and easily reversed. Some guys added switches, I went with simple.

My SJ5 has a serial number about 30 under yours and was delivered in 2008. Mine has an Aguilar OBP-1 preamp with a hybrid treble control (treble boost above the detent, tone control below the detent).
My controls are:
Volume, Pickup Selector Switch (4 positions), Hybrid Treble Control, Bass (boost only). The switch is active/passive.
