I have been thinking about this MOD too (adding a bridge pickup to my SP5).

I’ve been kicking this idea around for about a year! I suppose if I do it, I need to take my bass off the classifieds... it’s so hard to sell this bass.

They Payson bridge has the same (or at least very similar) saddles, so I don't think it will solve your issue. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

No rough edges with the Payson Fanned Bridges. If you’re a palm muter or are having trouble while picking, this will solve your issues. All the walls are smooth contoured with the Saddles nestled in the channels.

And as for the holes lining up on the newest model combustion line how do they fare? Is it a simple screw the old ones one and slap the new bridge on or is there any modding work required?

To my knowledge no one has had to drill extra holes.

Dingwall gurus ~ been wanting a Super P for years now, and I’m looking to trade my insanity sweet Spector NS-2 for a Super P, or P/J. Couple questions for you folks; I’m not a 5er guy....never played one for more than 5 minutes. Mainly due to a fat neck profile at the nut. 1.65 seems to be my sweet spot. So, as far as comparison between 5ers, how do Super P’s rate for nut width? Also, I’m assuming these basses can be tuned EADGC with zero negative impact on the neck?

E-C is no problem at all. I found I didn’t even have to mess with the nut. Using the lightest set of DR Pure Blues, or TI jazz flats, both .090 -.040 with a.030 C, I had a tiny open string rattle on the G string. I put a tiny length of heat shrink tubing over the string at the nut and fixed it. I didn’t heat the tubing, just slid it into place.

I went right back to a B-G set with no fiddling around on the set up. Super stable necks.

That's a sweet bass though, wow. It just looks like it sounds good.

Is that a "Sherwood Green" finish from them? It's really nice! I'd be curious to see it with a B/W/B or "mint" guard on it too. It would look good with all 3, it would be hard for me to choose if it were mine!

I just saw a "Dark Candy Green" finish on a Super P in a blog post on their site too. Looks similar to yours! I think it looks sweet with that B/W/B guard and the black blocks

Mine was originally B/W/B, that might be mine, I had a tort guard made to reverse P it. I think the color is based on Fury (Plymouth) green.

That's too funny, I think that's the bass they were talking about in that blog post on the site. I love the color, it looks great. I am very jealous of that bass (and I really only play 4 strings these days)! I'm thinking about turning my Super J into a Super P/J, those Super P and P/Js have to sound awesome.

The Nordstrand NP-4a's are giving me everything I want to hear on my SP4 (I have zero desire for a bridge pickup) and SJ/P4 (I keep soloing the P when I play live lately). The reason I ventured into Nordstrand land was because FDV versions of the split P and original super fatty aren't available. I'm finally going to get to hear an FDV soon. The first set I received to drop into my NG2 wouldn't (there was a bit too much potting, which spread the bottoms of the shells), but one way or another, the next set will get installed. I'll report back when that happens...

I am playing my Super J 5 (P/J) 95% of the time these days and it seems to me if I P/J my Super P5, I will have a similar setup for a 2nd bass that I am so accustomed to now.

My SJ P/J has a Super Fatty bridge pickup in the 70's J position. It would be interesting to see what one of the other pickups would be like.

SJ5 (P/J) - Yes. Aguilar ABP-1, but I don't use it that much.
SP5 - No. Passive.

I've been pondering some modifications to my NG2 involving one of these fine bridges and some tapered-post HipShot tuners... Be still, my heart.

I shot this with my zoom camera. Terrible view but pretty good audio imo. This song is in drop A and the dingwall felt great dropped down even with standard strings.

Well, after about two months of shedding and rehearsals, I played my first full gig with a 6 string - my ABII. I may become addicted to having a C string. Anyway, I'm thinking about replacing the Aguilar OB-3 preamp with something else. I have a Glockenklang that I took out of my Z3 and replaced with a DG Tone Capsule. However, the Z3 is a three pickup bass and the selector switch is set up for that. The ABII is a two-pickup bass (FD3s). Also, as you can see, the ABII has a cut-out for three toggle switches (scoop switch, active-passive, and a third switch that does nothing that I can discern.) Not sure what to do. Any ideas?
