I love flames and quilts. I can’t find a picture of the natural flame maple AB 1 I had, but she was a stunner.

I’d fall off the wagon again for something like this red AB2. I’d even go back to six strings.

One thing that really drives my decision making these days is weight. 8.5 is the limit. Under 8lb is the goal. The Super P is like 7.5, ridiculously light and comfortable.

Cirrus is just under 8.5. It’s okay for weight and balance, but like I mentioned, a long reach to hang out in F.

And then there’s all those cool solid color, automotive flavored finish Dingwall....sigh.

I have a Dingwall Combustion coming in from a fellow TB'r early next week. Really looking forward to trying out my 1st multiscale bass! I hope it sounds as massive with the Darkglass MT900 as I think it will.

I guess I am the four millionth person to ask this, but I can't find a decent answer anywhere: The strings on my Combustion 5 need replacement. Of course I can get the "original" Dingwall strings, but are there other brands that make strings that fit? I guess the 37" B string makes it difficult but it would be awesome if DR strings would fit.

Everyone seems to love the stainless steels. They're to bright for me when I'm trying to get a warm sound. I like the nickels, but the reduced cores are my favorite, since I can get a pretty bright sound or a pretty warm sound.

The PFSS’S do have an aggressive upper mid bite, but should be tameable by rolling the tone back. As BassBH said, if you want warmth, low mid punch with sweet spot brightness, the PFNS-RC’s are what you need.

Watching the used Dingwall market became a habit almost ten years ago. I’ve tried to quit. I struggle, but fall off the wagon when I see what I know is a solid bargain. I enjoy the randomness of the hunt.

I know if I ever want out, it’s not going to be hard to find a buyer.

I’ve never really thought about ordering a custom. I know I’d never recoup the price of a new, bespoke, build. That’s just the math on new stuff, be it basses, cars, motorcycles, boats....whatever. At least a Dingwall in the closet doesn’t eat money like a boat in the water or boat yard.

I felt like I was going way out on a limb when I bought my first Dingwall (sight unseen) in 2009. It was a used Super PJ 4 for 2k. I’d never contemplated a bass that cost that much. Heck, I’d paid $150 for my first bass. (A used ‘76 Kramer 450B). $500 for a used Fender Jazz was more my speed.

After the first one, I never looked back. Four Dingwalls have come and gone. I’m actively hunting the right deal on a NG 2 or 3 four string. Pretty much anything except the lime green would work. (I’m not sure about the swirls, but who knows). Not like I need another bass.....

The Cirrus I bought about a year ago for under $800 (mint with original hard shell case) is an outrageously nice bass. It’s twenty years old and looks like it just left the factory. A Mississippi Alembic.

If only it had the Dingwall long scale fanned frets, the E could be that much more glorious and the G would punch at a short scale’s weight.....and the ergonomics would be better, less reach to the nut...you know, all those things Sheldon gets just right.

I never went down 'the Stingray road' myself. Sheldon (and many others) already consider the NG-2 as a 'Stingray killer', and that's the road I took...

The Laguna Seca Blue looks great in the stage light!

I always dug the white Tbird that Mott the Hoople's bassist played. A Dbird in white would be awesome.

I had a gig this saturday as a sub with a David Bowie tribute band and I brought my SJ4 with me.
FOH was pretty happy with my tone. He said: "I really like that you can actually feel AND hear the bass" He also showed me what he was doing to my signal and it was just a small dip around 200hz because the keys were filling up too much space there.

My guess is, that in the long term my trusty old active corvette will stay in her stand.

I read in this thread for a bit and the thought of changing the wiring on the rotary switch got into my mind. I kinda think i don't need the full blow 3 pup position and would like a classical J selection more.

So is there good way to try this? I mean by chaning the leads on the rotary switch itself (screws). Probably there is somewhere in here a list of what is possible but i can't really find it.

Congrats! I would say your best option is to order a standard 3x switch if that is what you are looking to do.

I recommend Bass Direct for all your Dingwall needs in Europe. They usually have the 3x switch in stock.
