My Name is Niclas and since a week i am a proud member of this Club.
I got a purple NG3 5 string and i am beyond happy with it.
My guess is, that in the long term my trusty old active corvette will stay in her stand.

I read in this thread for a bit and the thought of changing the wiring on the rotary switch got into my mind. I kinda think i don't need the full blow 3 pup position and would like a classical J selection more.

So is there good way to try this? I mean by chaning the leads on the rotary switch itself (screws). Probably there is somewhere in here a list of what is possible but i can't really find it.

Welcome Niclas - yes a "standard" Dingwall 3x will work, but off-the-shelf selector switches will also. It's a pity there is no jazz selection on the NG3 switches.

For two pickup Dingwalls, the 4 position rotary switch works well. If I were to get a 3 pickup version, I would have no need for the bridge pickup setting by itself and would want options of both the middle solo and neck solo, Jazz (outer two), Stingray (back two), front two and all three. I guess that would mean I'd need a 6-position selector!

Yeah 6-position sounds like a dream. But where to get one....sadly i don't live in USA to visit "mo" haha.

I guess I am the four millionth person to ask this, but I can't find a decent answer anywhere: The strings on my Combustion 5 need replacement. Of course I can get the "original" Dingwall strings, but are there other brands that make strings that fit? I guess the 37" B string makes it difficult but it would be awesome if DR strings would fit.

The problem with installing standard strings on a multiscale bass is that the tensions will be way off. They won't feel or sound anything like they do on a standard scale bass. I recommend sticking with strings designed for multiscale.

Big fan of Dingwall's own strings. I was using the Stainless, and then Sheldon gave me a set of Nickels to check out. Loving them -they're a bit rounder and have less "gank". Plus they don't have the rough feel that steels always seem to have at first.

Congrats! I would say your best option is to order a standard 3x switch if that is what you are looking to do.

+1 The new switches with screw connections are great and they come with wiring diagrams. I happen to like the smell of solder, but screwdrivers are quicker.

i exactly have that switch in there. The one with the screws....that is why i wanted to know if there is a ways to switch up the wires for trying.

I understand. If there is a way to do that with your current switch, I don't know what it is.

There's isn't. I've posted wiring diagrams for the stewmac 6x switch and at some point might post detailed parts/pictures on how to do it.

Note that even with dingwall’s switch, you’ll need to do some soldering.

I figured this was the case so I put in a good stock of Dingwall and Payson strings when I bought my Z3. Although, when I got my Super P, I put a set of DR Hi Beams on it and they seem to be working pretty well.

Me too. I've tried the others and even went back to the Dingwall SS strings at one point...and I always revert back to Sheldon's nickel/steel strings. They're pretty perfect.

No. You need the other switch to get bridge/neck in parallel (the Jazz-style setting).

One of the positions available on the NG3/Dbird switch is bridge+middle in parallel. If you put the neck pickup wires where the middle ones currently are, you'd have bridge+neck in parallel (Jazz wiring) in that position instead. That would of course throw off two of the other pickup settings, but you'd at least be able to evaluate what the Jazz position would sound like without having to buy or install anything. And it would be easily reversible unless you decide you need the Jazz setting more than the other 3.

I have it under control. I haven't had a hit (rosin, sweet rosin...) since hard-wiring the pickups in the NG-2 in series last year!
