I've come to realise I need to try the nickel Dingwall strings before I try changing the pickups to FDVs. After that, I might look into a pickup change. I'm also still planning on trying out G#-standard tuning with Kalium strings.

Talking about wanting a more warm, mid focused tone.

The Dingwall Nickel strings might get you there. I find them not sounding as scooped but also having a richer harmonic content in the mids.

The power I got (and put in acrylic base) indeed glowed brighter and had amazing persistence...but I've found that the Luminlay blue markers I have on the NG3 do an excellent job on dim stage or during momentary light-outs on stage. They provide just enough glow to be visible and they do recharge when the lights come on for the next moment of need. I also can say that I really like the black surround ones. They provide an excellent amount of contrast in these situations.

When doing inlays I chose the blue because they supposedly have better persistence though are not nearly as bright to start with as the green is.

Interesting. I bought one stick in blue and wasn't sure if I'd use it. My Combustion is getting done this week. Green Luminlay was a no-brainer for that one as it's candy apple green.

I am still debating my white SJ5, which is #1 and already has good contrast with white markers (on maple and morado) as well my ABII, which also has good contrast with white markers (on bubinga and wedge).

Give the Payson nickels a try as well. I really liked the reduced core and medium lights.

The Dingwall nickels are a solid choice.

I tried all three sets and my favorites were the Payson reduced core. Both for sound and feel.

The Kalium or Circle K balanced set was nice, but the purchase experience was less than optimal. You’ll get your strings, eventually, but it was super slow.

I'm partial to Dingwall nickel steel or Payson solid core nickel steel. The Payson "reduced core" have a bit too much tension for me (standard tuning).

A few others have talked about the Payson Reduced Core Nickels. If you want to try out a set, I'm open to offers on a set I pulled off an Afterburner 2 that still played well (I don't know how old they are as they came with that bass).

Are the Super Fatties direct replacements, size wise to the FD3/Vs? Also, are they an option for custom AB orders? On the site you mention they compress akin to tube amps, which sounds very intriguing to me.

The original SFs where the skinny shell seen on many SJs and the old Sklars and many Zs.

Since perhaps 2017ish maybe. The SF2 replaced the SF1. The SF2 has the same pick up she’ll as the FD3, FDV. I think this was done to simplify builds and the swapping of pickups.

Super-Fatty I's were compressed. Super-Fatty II's are more open. They are an option on AB's.

They're a 'standard' shape/size so you should be able to look at some options. Check the dimensions and look at the regular suspects. I'd think you might find there's a Bartolini option in that size and some others...I know at least one person who has Villex pickups in their Dingwall.

I think your size is called the Bartolini P2 size or Aguilar D, although you may want to double check that. Look at Bartolini, Nordstrand, Seymour Duncan, and Aguilar.
