NDD tomorrow. At 8lbs 3.5ozs I am really looking forward to putting this guy through its paces.

No samples I’m afraid. Your comment about sound effect territory is close to how I use it, for quiet passages or for a contrast here and there. When I go back to a 5 string I start to miss it.

I absolutely prefer the updated body shape: way more modern and edgy looking.

I'll add my recollections to AB Nate's replies.

1.i don’t know. Dingwall and Payson make fantastic string options.

-Agree. I love Dingwall strings. I know that Payson is making a coated set but not elixir style. I remember someone using them on their Dingwall, but it could have been a 'super series' with a shorter scale.

2.ive had one I think that fit. Most don’t I think. Or if they do its just barely.

-I would agree here too. Right angle cables come in a bunch of flavors so some may and some may not. The Combustions are all loaded with the Electro-socket jackplate which is a high quality non-locking jackplate. It is concave/inset so straight connectors are my go-to. I've built cables for stage that are straight for the bass end and right angle for the pedalboard end.

3. Perhaps look for Claudio Rocca(spelling?!?)

-Except for a handful of songs where I use effects I play 'clean'. If you do a search for "Root Shock" on YouTube there's a bunch of studio and live stuff up (some may be Z-1 but most from 2018 & 19 will be NG3. Or here's a soundboard of a recent festival that's definitely NG-3 (Monique tube preamp/DI).

The Ducati white is a matte/pearl...and I think that's the currently available white that shows up on NGs. At least it's the one I've seen around. In person it's a great looking finish.

The quilts and WPB look so great on these that the first thing I'd do is remove that pickguard. Seems like a shame to hide half the finish.

I don't even have the nice quilt and I'm considering removing or plexi'ing. ;) But then, I've started to wear through the 'carbon fiber print' at my thumb anchor on the NG3.

Agreed that it looks edgy in comparison. Though, I don’t look to Dingwall for that kind of edge, and I feel like it’s more likely to look “dated” down the road. I’m not saying I don’t like it, just that I don’t see it as a definite aesthetic improvement over the previous design. I’d certainly play either one, but it would be tough choice for me to pick one based on the difference in looks. I’m also a grumpy middle aged man :bag:

Yes, you can string it however you want as long as you can find strings with appropriate winding lengths for the lower end.
Pretty sure there are quite a few options for a E at the long scale length, the C will be no issue as it's 34".

Been thinking about this in a 5 string from a different brand. My Dingwall is a 4. Still curious how this works out. I wouldn’t expect any issues aside from needing to adjust the action/truss/intonation.

I never took to the B string, I ran all my five string Dingwalls E-C.

Started off with a pack of Dingwall nickels I had for the six string.

Fret Nation sells C strings as singles for about $4-5 for .030’s. You can also get .035.

I never had new nuts made, and l like my action very low, so no problem there. Occasionally, the G string in the former D slot would have an open string rattle. I just put a bit of shrink wrap in the slot and made sure to keep the winding on the peg as low as possible. That fixed it.

You’ll need to do a set up and intonation, and maybe fuss with the pickup height.

It’s fun to have the hi range and all the chord options.
