Ok, DW team. I might need some feedback on this one. I’ve been thinking about swapping necks of my SJ5s. Do you think swapping the necks would depreciate the value of the basses?

the serial numbers won’t match and as long as you offer full disclosure if you sell..... then generally speaking yes. I do think it devalues them. Not everyone’s take I’m sure but when I shop 90% of the time I’m looking for as minty as possible and stock as possible. Or at least the original parts to revert back.

or on a rare occasion I might be content with”road worn” for a significantly reduced price. When talking expensive Dingwalls it’s a selective market for sure.

I cannot, for the life of me, choose a finish. I think that might be the most difficult part of ordering. Pretty much all the other details are more or less set - though, I'm working with a couple people on developing a new preamp that may end up in this build.

So you have the top picked out and it is just the finish? I'd always wanted to do a transparent orange, or you could do a burst like the blood moon, but ask if rather than center, they will shift it down so that is is almost like flame coming up towards the top. With the right color choices that could look cool.

I don't think it would devalue it if the necks are in the same condition. You'll just want to inform Dingwall in case anyone inquires on that serial number. My bass used to have a different neck, though it was the original owner that swapped them.

Bloodmoon burst is such a favorite of mine, but, I don't want to copy cat it . It's a unique piece and definitely deserves to stay as such to the person that came up with that.

I'm leaning in the dark red / pink-ish burst (or reverse?) direction for now. Thankfully even if I jump in queue, I believe I have several months to sort that particular idea out. The bigger one is the electronics magic I'm attempting to cook up (will talk more about this later if it becomes real).

Hm, not that I know of. He has the Nebula and Bloodmoon Z's as far as I know. Didn't know of an AB1 with that finish. I think the neck pocket on the AB series would throw off the aesthetics quite a bit.

Ok so bass fully setup, no more distortion because of too high output (had to do 3 or 4 full turns on the pup screws to get them down enough), no more buzzing below 7th fret on any string, no more buzzing on any string above 12, action is perfect on the whole neck, all good.

Except for two things :
- I now have buzz on open A (a bit) and open E (a lot).
- the bridge screws are a bit higher visually than I'm comfortable with, I'll take a pic and would gladly have your opinions.

Try backing off on the truss-rod 1/8 turn. It sounds like the neck is a little too straight

yeah, the antique burst would look cool too. I'ts like a reddish amber- I was going to post that but didn't want to hog all the screen space.

That Dingwall sounds great! What are you running it through? Settings? Its got that killer low mid growl especially around the 11:00 mark or so

I think I used the bass passive here, and bumped a little tiny bit of low and low mids on the EQ in the amp. That's it.
