Dingwall Owners Club

So here are the details:
ABI 5 string
Green to Purple Burst over Flamed Maple
Maple neck and fingerboard with purple speedos
3X pickups with Parallel/Series switches
Glockenklang Preamp

I'm still very happy with my NG-3 but a couple of years ago, there was an ABI at the Bass Shop. I tried it out and was seriously impressed. I almost pulled the trigger but for various reasons didn't. I didn't forget it though. Then, last November, the stars and the moon aligned and I placed my order. In retrospect I think I'm going about this the right way. I've ordered two other custom basses over the years (Alembic and Sadowsky) and when spending this kind of money, it really makes sense to get all the details exactly right. I think this Dingwall build hits everything that I want.

Now I just need to remain patient.

You're more than welcome to swing by The Bass Shop when my Z gets in, if you'd like.

Green and purple? Are you the guy John Fox was telling me about when we were on the phone talking about the various options on Canadian Dingwalls?

:smug:

The ABII even in 5 string is very light, how heavy are the 4 sting AB 1 and 2s normally?

My AB-1 four string weighs 7.5 lb.

It’s within an ounce of the Super P four string.

My AB-1 six string was under 9 lb. A AB-1 five string was also very light.

All the AB’s were alder body, flame maple tops, maple necks and wenge fretboards.

The Super P is alder body, maple and Birdseye, with a solid piano black gloss finish.

The Dbird weighs close to 8.5, which I think is on the heavy side of the Dbird, Droc range. I’ve seen Drocs at 7.5.

Is there a way to use a D-Roc switch, but change the bridge/middle (parallel) to bridge/middle (series)?
Or is that baked into the switch? I can't switch to a 3X because I'm putting a P-Tone in the middle position and I want to solo that.

Nope. the switches are made with printed boards so you can't rewire or bend the options. You may be able to get a custom 4 way switch. I know that Mo Mina is doing those, so that would be easy enough.

ABNate,

Your 6 string build was a major inspiration for me. Yours has the birdseye maple fretboard with the speedos which would have been super cool but I did a little cost savings with the standard board. Your purple to green to purple over a buckeye burl is beyond amazing.

I figured it’s most likely my last build and went a bit nuts. Cost savings is wise. I’m trying to implement that by selling basses. Lol.
Can’t wait to see it man.

If you up the anti ill bet against ya….. :p

Edit: Dang it!!! Wait a minute!! Do you know something I don’t? New models???

I dunno about y'all but I'm excited to see what production models are going to be introduced. I know there's been all sorts of allusions by Sheldon in Q&A's etc., to the development of some new imports...so that right now for me is where any energy is for new stuff.

A cost effective P would be hard to pass by. Lately I’ve been, really enjoying my humbuckers in my Mm basses and more so even my Active EMGs.
My energies are actually more in the head space of tinkering with pick up options vs new basses.
I really do have a be all end all line up of dingwalls for me. At this point, I really hope to find an older AB 6 with certain wood combos to Frankenstein up a bit more so then a new build.
….. @dirkhh modifying an older bass best not count with ur little wager.

Well, technically the person about whom a bet is, isn't supposed to bet, but... yeah, ok.
Twenty bucks! I am certain I'll win this one.
Also, to @BurningSkies comment... of course @AB Nate will also buy and sell a few production models in the meantime... but he'll also commission another custom build... :)
