Dingwall Owners Club

I think what you're missing are the cross border fees, 1% for cross border and then another 2.5% if the buyer pays in a different currency. So I suspect we're at 11.2% fees and then a real awful exchange rate on the currency conversion bringing out to a net 14.7% hit.
It's all in the small print here - Billing Policy | Reverb.com

Honestly I'd love to see it broken down as well now that I've been looking into it, it should be a standard receipt they provide for every transaction. The takeaway is there are many hidden fees, especially if you ship internationally.

Also I should say, I'm not super annoyed about it or anything. I knew what I was getting into and the bass was priced with the fees in mind so I got close to what I wanted. It's just not a simple 5% as the headline advertises.

Ok. All my transactions have been in the states. I've seen the foreign transaction fees come up on E-Bay. Yeah - gotta check all that - no denying. I agree that things are not always easily calculated. They should be. I should be able to look in one place and see what I paid for the item, paid for the shipping label, paid in fees, net total. Ebay especially seems a joke in that regard.

The Korean factory has the capability to do compound radius FB's whereas the Chinese factory does not. So both Hellboys and Standard 5's are compound.

I've seen formulas for calculating compound radius variables. They didn't make sense to me, so I used CAD to model the arc at various points on the fretboard while keeping the path under each string perfectly straight. I attribute that to why our radius values are different than the norm.

It's this kind of clarification straight from the "man at the top" that is making Dingwall ownership a pleasure.
Even though I have an import model I don't feel like I own any less of an instrument ( and it inspires me to own a Canadian bass once funds allow ).
I'd kind of guessed that my D-roc Standard 5 was compound radius but was unsure.

One of these days i will need to get a sj4. Will probably keep it passive. The matt black with white pearl pickguard/inlays, and vintage burst with parchment pickguard (on the website) are pretty on point!

So the dg preamp lacks a true bypass? Or do you mean people avoiding paying for one if there is no intention to use it… given the tones it is known to produce?

what i am trying to learn is if the dg preamp colours the tone when in passive (bypass) mode? If it does, i interpret that as not a true bypass.

it does colour the sound set flat. Slightly but as mentioned, it’s there.

The Glockenklang version seems completely transparent to me at the detents and sounds the same when switched to passive (with the tone control all the way up). That passive tone control is great.
I agree. I don’t think it is a discernible difference flat. The DG is definitely different though. I’ve really grown to love it. I do wish it had a passive tone control though.

I never get why people say that a darkglass preamp colours the tone in a specific way. The bass can be set to passive. Am i missing something about the pots or something? I assumed bypass was full bypass of the preamp. Does a preamp colour the passive tone when not active? (Just minus eq control?). I ask as a newb to active bases. My ng2 and now ab1 are my only active bases. To my ear they sound identical active or passive when the eq is in neutral.

short version: is the passive bypass of the dg preamp a true bypass?

On my Z, there is very distinct difference from passive and DG preamp engaged flat. Personally, I don’t mind the eq shift because I find the eq points selected work great for making mids work/cut through a dense mix better.
If I were looking at R&B tone and P&W tone as my goals, I would probably want to do a more classic scoop at times, which another preamp would natively do.
I play a lot of different songs while messing around on this bass and I can find tones that would work for these genres with my Z but I think I would want a Glock for the original tone goals that were asked about.
