Fortunately mine has this black one.
I didn’t realize it at first but it’s definitely my fav Dingwall pickguard as far as the fit and finish goes. I’m not sure what has happened thru the evolution of these but I’ve seen some look way higher quality than others. Even the racing stripes have a nice bevel on the edges so they aren’t “sharp”

Mine has the nice beveled stripe edging, but has also got the faux-CF pattern, executed in a pretty nice looking way. I’m interested to see what the PG looks like on my F#0 NG3, when it arrives. Regardless, though, that one’s going to be swapped out, I’m just waiting on materials to make a replacement.

I have sets for my two D-Birds, which are much better color matches than the blue/purple swirl are for my DRoc, but I’ve been too lazy to pull the strings so I could install them.

Maybe. I love the natural finish also. Went in and had a chat with Guy and Dave and they told i might be able to get on their next order. So it arrives in a few weeks.
I installed mine without removing the strings. I had just changed strings the week prior then decided to get the block inlay stickers and I didn't want to remove the strings. I got impatient and tried one just to see. It went great and I just kept on going. The little 'helpers' they include make it pretty easy.
Exciting times. I love my DROC. Amazing P tone (in middle position) and amazing bass in general. I am sure you'll adore the NG

Thinking about trying flatwounds on my Combustion 5. Anyone tried and your thoughts? Recommend brand and size? Thanks.
BTW, Dingwall put up a teaser for a new NG color about an hour ago. Perhaps that add for the Fiesta Red leaked something that wasn’t meant to be leaked?
I put a set of LaBella 760FS-B-XL strings on my NG3 and like them a lot. I had to trim away about 5 to 10mm of thread from the top of the B-string, which wasn't terribly difficult to do. I like them a lot better than the roundwounds.

I’ve used TI jazz flats, but you’ll need a mixed set for the lengths:contact Jason at FretNation.com. Be aware the B string is a whopping .136 and not tapered at the ball end. I liked E-C better. My six string AB sounded so nice with TI jazz flats, I just needed some shorter saddle screws. FretNation also does singles for special needs.
Payson flats are made specifically for the Dingwall long scale basses. They sound and feel great on my Dbird. Payson also has TI flats on his website.
I’m using Payson nickel rounds on my AB, and he helped me build a set that suits my super light string preference. You can pick from the various gauges, and dial in your feel.
I found the fret illusions went on easily with the strings in place, and the strings helped me get positioned evenly. The little positioning strips are genius.

Probably not much different than the uneven tension on parallel fret basses with typical string sets. Usually the E and B have lower tension than the D and G with normal string sets.
