I've only used an SF2 with FDVs, and the SF2 was louder. I ended up wiring the SF2 in parallel, with the FDVs in series to help balance the output (but have since switched to all FDVs).

Hey all!
I have a quick question about communication during the build process, as my Dingwall is the very first custom instrument I've ever ordered, and I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to communication and etiquette.
I ordered my instrument around 2/20/21, and I didn't hear anything about my bass entering production until I reached out to Dingwall directly and got a serial number and selected my top wood. This was around November of 2022.
Would it be improper to ask my dealer to contact Dingwall for an updated lead time? Is asking periodically considered rude or improper or annoying?
I'm new to this whole thing, and I want to make sure I'm not being a pest or a rude client.
Any advice on this front?

I would reach out to your dealer with any questions.
That would be more appropriate than contacting Dingwall directly. I know Sheldon was giving John Fox periodic updates that applied to all customers.

I would suggest reaching out to your dealer as much as you like, you're spending a big sum of money and it's their job to serve you the customer.
Yes. I have a Super J in a very similar finish and pickguard combination, and it just kills.
You could certainly do worse!
I have a thing for white instruments, so that combo would be at the top of my list if I was looking for a 4-string.
Ah yes, the pre-scoop headstock scoop. I remember that one. B-string drop tuner or is it tuned E-C?
Doubt it, look how much room LeFey had to leave between tuners to pull off two on a side.
Haven't seen it on a Dingwall, not sure how doable it is, but this exists, so there's hope???
I think it only works because both strings are getting dropped, so the A tuner doesn't run into the E tuner. But I only briefly owned a bass with a Detuner, so not I'm not sure if the paddle moves towards the lower string or the higher string when you flip the switch.

You could probably have a machinist customize a drop-tuner lever with a longer shaft so that it clears the B tuner. Might cost twice as much as the drop-tuner though.
Have you seen how far apart the separate drop-tuners are on Michael Manring's bass? Needs a lot of room to operate like they are designed.
You absolutely should. They are 'Superb' P's, IMO. I'm old school and think they should have four strings (and don't need a bridge pickup). That's a classic beauty there.

This is the last custom Dingwall we delivered before we shut the doors- May, 2020. Sheldon and crew delivered big time, every time. What a beautiful bass!

I mean, really a 4 string is all you need, you can just have it strung BEAD to play music from this century
I'm strongly considering checking some point down the line if they'll do me a version of Steve Harris' 80's era blue bass - maple neck/fretboard, sparkly blue finish and mirror pickguard. That would look epic imo.
