A wenge neck+fretboard supposedly has some specific tonal characteristics (low-mid "growl") that make the combination attractive to several bassists.

Nolly Getgood talks about his all-wenge necked Dingwall basses. I wish he would have included some dry (no effects) samples so that we could hear the wenge growl.
He's been popping in occasionally and tantalizing everyone with pics like this: (Don't LOOK Lady Kyria!!!)
I've had the opportunity to play a number of baritone guitars with wenge/wenge or wenge/ebony necks.
They had a distinctive throaty quality and a noticeable amount of extra sustain, compared to similar builds with maple or mahogany necks.
The difference was subtle, but seemed repeatable, at least across that small data sample.

Dang...a low F# @175. I have a hip shot on my low B and I have to say, the low A looses a lot. The low B great in comparison.

They are also awesome necks to play. I love the feel of a wenge neck. I have to believe that Sheldon's wenge necks are even MORE special.

Since we're on the subject of wenge. I love it. Has an awesome feel and I love the grain, and don't forget the nice growly sound you can get.

Oh yeah, I believe that'll work! BTW, another thing I like about the wenge neck is the wenge head stock.
PS, I'll bet a tort guard would look awesome for that bass as well.

I went with maple/ebony for a fretless neck for a Super P based on Barry's recommendation: "More mids from the Maple neck compared to a Wenge neck (which has more highs/ lows)"
Should look great with the traditional burst Super P. When it shows up - 3 - 6 months!
I really like the feel of wenge necks. I've played a few Warwicks that were very, very nice, but I could never get down with the sound of their pickups and preamps. Dingwall is offering the best of several worlds with their new Super J/P options.
After reading the last few pages, it occurred to me that a P might be a better option after all. So, time to bug my dealer for another quote!
My Sonic Super P launched from Saskatoon today and is expected to land at my house on or around the twenty-fourth! 
That will be special. You are a braver man than I playing fanned fretless basses! Or perhaps just a better bass player.

I serendipitously hitched a ride on the coattails of Zoomie's order for his purty reverse - Super P5. They came out of the shop within days of each other...
Well, I have commissioned my first spec'd bass and I am excited. I'm a buy it used guy, like my cars, but I couldn't resist.
Dingwall Super P4 with Transwhite over ash, wenge neck and board, pearloid dots and headstock logo, drop D tuner and tort guard.
I decided to forego the bridge pup. I'm really a P bass guy, and I really love the clean look of the body between the guard and the bridge.
Pretty much that transwhite NAAM bass but with wenge/wenge instead of Maple/BEM.
Now the wait!

I love the way the dots 'pop' in the wenge.
This is going to be an awesome axe - congratulations. You've waited long enough to invest in your first new bass and you have chosen well, padawan! 
I really enjoyed Nolly's vid. Stellar job of sharing his gear as well as what he gets from it to create his tone.
I am not, nor have I ever been a legit metal guy. But I do dig his tone for that genre. Respect Nolly! Very cool share.
