Well after much thought and playing my p bass 5er, I updated the final specs on my order placed with Dingwall. Come on summer time 
- Dingwall Super P 5 string with alder body
- Fiesta Red
- All wenge neck and wenge fretboard
- White pearloid/abalone inlaid logo on headstock
- Side white pearloid/abalone markers
- No fretboard dot markers
- Black pick guard
- P pickup and FD3 at bridge
- Passive tone fusion electronics
- Chrome hardware
Had to go with chrome hardware. Black hardware isn't an option on the Super P with FD3 at the bridge. Will still be an awesome bass

Super NICE! Might consider a White Pearloid pick guard. Gonna be a long wait! but worth it...
I have always preferred the P body, not for the size, but for the ergonomics. Offset basses don't stand well, which annoys me, but I also prefer the waist in the P position when seated.
I guess there's a good argument for making the new one a "pure P", since you already have the Jazz flavour.
Maybe it's just my finances talking, but to my mind, these basses are lifetime keepers. Even if I was only going to use the J pickup 10% of the time, I would want it in there, to avoid possible buyer's remorse later.
Thanks. I thought about a white pearloid pg. I just held off for now since there's no up charge for a black pg and I can always just buy one.

My guess is the majoriy of folks here prefer a lighter bass and I'm definitely in that camp as well. I must say though that my Dingwall weighs-in at just over 10lbs(walnut/maple) but it's as comfortable to play standing on long gigs as any of my 8-9lb basses due to the perfect balance and general ergonomics. I think this will be a great option for those who like a little more "junk in the trunk" but don't want a sore back or shoulder.

Commissioning a new Dingwall is a life changing event, congratulations! What are the specifics of your new dream bass?
I like the body shapes of both my SJ5 and SP5. The biggest difference - and that is about to change with the SJ5 taking on the "thinline" body thickness - is the weight and body thickness. My SJ5 weighs in the mid 9's (lbs), but balances so well it doesn't feel that heavy. The SP5 weighs in at 8 lbs even. It's just a tad more comfortable due to the weight.
I can't imagine an 11 lb Afterburner! I think the light weight is one of the major benefits and I don't gig too much and practice and rehearse sitting down.

By the way, I love that Sonic Blue SP4. While I don't need another bass, it is very tempting

SP5- 3-Tone Sunburst. Tort PG. Wenge Neck/Fingerboard. White perloid block markers. Chrome hardware. Standard Orientation P Pickup and the FD-3 Bridge. In my last email to Barry, I inquired to see if it is possible to get some sort of parallel/series mini-switch.
Interesting on the SJ5 weights. Mine weighs exactly 8 pounds, 8 ounces, but I a have an SJ Standard. No preamp and no batteries.
My SJ5's are customs (rear-routed, glock preamps, no pick guard or control plate) with chambered swamp ash (northern ash top) bodies. The JJ weighs 8lbs, 9oz and the P/J weighs 8lbs, 4oz. My solid alder bodied SJ/P4 is the heaviest at 8lbs, 11oz.
I finally tried the new formula Dingwall strings. I had previously strung my P/J with DR nickel LoRiders and quickly removed them. I put them on the J/J and have been digging them. Out of curiosity, I tried the Dingwall nickels on the P/J. Nickel strings seem to muffle and blunt the open and aggressive voice of this bass. I removed them and installed the new formula stainless steel Dingwalls. They are noticeably smoother under the fingers. Beautiful tonal balance - a big, clear and authoritative voice for my P/J! I had absolutely no problems fitting the B strings from either set. I got inspired after hearing the steels on the SJ/P and decided to replace the still-lively DR's on the J/J with the Dingwall nickels. Superb. Even more pleasing to my ears than the nickel LoRiders. I do love hearing those Super Fatties in series!
The Dingwall nickels bring out the 'inner jazz' of this bass in a very tasty way. Delicious! Bold but refined. Sweet highs, not too harsh or too tame. Solid, clear lows. I'm eager to hear these through the main rig, but my worship leader is out of action for some minor surgery. Praying for rapid recovery! 
That is going to be a vintage styled modern beast of a bass!
Yeah...Going to nice. The headstock will be Wenge as well (as opposed to matching the body). Should be a very unique P for sure.
Originally was tinking I would string this with flats...and may still...but am really digging the Dingwall Stainless so may go that route....at least for a while. The stainless strings still feel a little stiff to me but less so if I warm up on the upright then pick up the SJ5. The tone is killer....even just unamplified.
A co-worker of mine has a 1960's something Ampeg B12. Not sure of the exact year but he hasn't had time to play in years and it is taking up space so he has agreede to "loan" it to me for a while. Not sure if this could lead to selling it to me or not. I am intrested in getting a tube amp. Had been thinking maybe getting a Monique. This B12 trial may really lead to tube GAS.
Sigh. Thought that between my Combustion and AfterburnerII my DAS was under control. Then the Super P arrived. And now there will be a P/J option on a Super P body? Lordy. DAS strikes hard... Drool. Hmmm. Four or five string? Tobacco burst or natural? Walnut or wenge neck? Blocks, dots or nude finger board? Starting to save leftvover cash, thinking of selling a few non-Dingwall basses... Yep, the DAS is back, in full force.
With the sunburst body and all-wenge neck, I should have said 'vintage/modern styled'. I treat my tube GAS by plugging into my Reeves C225 every Sunday.
