Those of you with toggles, do you think it was worth it? They are a pretty cheap addition, yet would be really a pain to add after the fact. The only reason I can see not to get them is for aesthetic reasons, just looks cleaner to me with the 5 knobs in an arc.

For me the switches are useful. I usually keep one in series and the other two in parallel. Which one is in series varies depending on which one I want to emphasize.

The toggles are definitely not a must-have, but they certainly are a very-nice-to-have.

I generally prefer my basses to be passive with as few knobs and switches as possible for playing live, but I enjoy having options in other situations. To me, my 3X with both toggles and a Glock is mind-bogglingly versatile, in the best way possible.

I ordered some Payson Flats to try out on my ABZ after seeing the John Fox video. I like Dingwalls.I like flats. So, maybe these will work out great for me. It's getting close to time to change strings anyways, so a good time to experiment.

Thanx for linking to that video. John Fox is the man with those vids. Very helpful and always relaxed and polite and not putting "pressure" on ther viewer, either with advertising or "intensive" speech. I really like those vids.

Unfortunately, those flats do sound great. And I didn't want to mess with my string choices again.

I have a Super-J with an Ovangkol neck and a Wenge fretboard. Now ... I don't know wether it is the woods or the Drakglass Pre or whatever combination of factors ... but this bass is one of best sounding basses I got. Woody, warm, but transparent und just pleasant. It is special.
Maybe I just got lucky.

Can you please share your bass’ complete specs? So far your Super J is the best looking SJ I have ever seen. Congratulations!

I’m wanting to shake things up on SJ’s controls. I’ve been enjoying active basses with a passive tone control in the circuit and have been contemplating adding a Tonestyler. My SJ has the Glock preamp. Does anyone know if it’s possible to remove the mid control from the preamp, effectively converting it to a 2-band version?

Glockenklang does make a 2 band that you could just convert to. I had it in my old AB2 and it was a great preamp.

It is basically 95% of the specs that I would have done for my own custom build, without the waitlist. Plus it's here in time for tracking, lol. Wasn't sure about the SFII pickups or the glockenlang preamp (no experience with either), and I would have preferred a Z3, but after I plugged it in, I was beyond sold with the electronics. No need to change.

It’s a beautiful bass! Congrats. I eyeballed that one on more than one occasion. My favourite colour scheme.

Oh and btw.l, that pick up layout is called Z1. when they are side by side in the MM configuration, that is a Z2

I find them incredibly useful. I use them quite often.

I’ve also done the add in myself on a bass(scroll back) and as nerve racking as it was to drill the install was quite easy.

My Dingwall Z3’s tone was on full display at church this morning. No effects! Just a little compression and slight overdrive.

Just get another bass and put on flats. Problem solved.

It would be nice if 18mm spacing was an option for the SJ5 and SP5 models.

I have been told lately that the 18mm option is coming!

I have toggles on my Z. I put the bridge and neck in series and the middle in parallel as my default. I don’t have them on my SJ, but the pickups are wired the same as my default Z toggle settings, so I don’t miss them. But they do offer additional tonal options at a relatively low upcharge ($185). If I were to order another custom I would get the toggles. As far as the aesthetics, I don’t see the toggles as a negative, but that’s just me.
