The Combustions are very good.

But: while the way I look at price vs performance may be a little warped compared to most people, to my mind, the price difference between the Combustion and the ABZ makes the upgrade a no-brainer.

The ABZ neck profile is sleeker, the 4-way switching gives an amazing variety of tones for a passive bass, the hardware is a lot better, it has a lifetime guarantee to the original owner, it's lighter, no batteries, and the overall feel is just...

...better.

Hallelujah, I can play my Super P again! I finally made it in to work today and the mail dude brought it in. I had been trying to get my tractor to start so I could plow a path out to the county road, but even with a new battery, it wasn't going to happen. Broke down and hired someone to do the job. :rollno:

Man, this is a killer precision. Now I'm looking forward to playing it with the group on Sunday. :bassist:

This is the best my eye + camera could do. It's a reasonable facsimile, but as always, it looks better 'in person'. Sheldon's Sonic Blue is rich and deep...

Very pretty! Seems like everyone's plans are coming together. I didn't think I was a five string guy until I lucked into an AB-1. Now I'm up to six strings. The AB series basses are super sweet, and super light.

There's a sweet Super J 4 in Bronze Age with a baltic amber over on Ebay. Somebody should snag it, before I win the auction and have "some 'splainin" to do. I shouldn't bid after sipping in the hot tub, but I could play that!

I think I'll take my lovely wife to dinner.

Thanks, man - Black Abalone is my favorite combination with Sonic Blue. John did a super job as usual - it fit perfectly. Still playing with pickup heights. It's amazing how responsive it is to small adjustments.

Sounds like you're 'off the hook' for the Bronze SJ! Sipping on some of your namesake?

Well this one is hard to find, as it is one of the rarest, 1st generation PRS bass with 3 pickups plus a dummy hum cancelling coil sitated at the back of the body behind the bridge, this one dates back to 1986 and was discontinued I believe in 1991.

Then the 2nd generation totally sucked and the new Gary Granger models are superb, if only I could justify another...

I'm looking for a few opinions on a new Dingwall, I'm currently torn between an ABZ5 or blow all my tax rebate and getting a fancy Super P5.
My dilemma here is that I previously owned an ABZ5, which I loved, but had to sell as I moved from the UK to Canada so needed the cash at the time. I really like the 37" scale but I do prefer the looks of the Super P and J. So I guess what I'm asking is, is there any or much of a compromise with the shorter scale on the Super P5?
I'm based in Toronto so there isn't anywhere local I can check out a Super P to see if I'd get on with one.
Hopefully that makes sense, any opinions/advice would be greatly received.
