Alright! Had to sell the last one before I had a chance to make sure I could even get used to it! Made a sale on a large item and now I have this baby coming my way for 1900 shipped!! Did I do good?

My Dingwall ownership has me in the final stages of a build order. It turns out I like the ABI versatility and the Super series neck, so I am putting together an SJ5XXX. I have asked Dingwall sales some final questions but also have one for the group here. Regarding a P tone PUP, would it necessarily add anything to the SJ5XXX tonal palette, keeping in mind I'm opting for 3 series/parallel switches and no preamp? If it does, I would most likely put it in the middle position.
Other than that, I'm very close to pulling the trigger![]()

That's what I said, then ended with 4 somehow! And I still ogle and scheme over just about every one that is for sale.I think 2 will be enough for me, 1 at home, 1 at practice, both for gigs.

I have lately discovered how great the parallel setting is. I end up goosing the bass and mids a bit and it sounds so punchy and yet a bit less aggressive in the upper mids. I am very happy with my ABZ. I am still considering trying a P-tone in the neck position, just because I can ......Every once in a while I think, "Man, I really need another Dingwall, I just don't think the ABZ can cut it for everything I play."
Then, last night, in the studio on campus here, with no idea what we were doing, my group set up to cut a reference track of bass over the drum reference. I ran a DI of my bass into the Neve 1073, then a DI off the end of my board, into a 1073, and then put an AKG C414 on my amp and had killer, ungodly, amazing tone. Even just cutting a crappy scratch track in the control room prior to this, plugged straight into a digital pre, with NO EQ or processing the ABZ just killed through the studio monitors.
Yes, but then you are going to give up your solo neck or bridge on a gig. It will also take away your middle/bridge series connection in place of a middle/bridge parallel connection.I believe with the new solderless rotary, solo middle is an option.
Really like your spec on this beautiful bass. Swamp ash/wenge work well together. How does the tone and feel of this contrast with your SJ4-3X?

I wouldn't use the parallel setting setting without a boost of the bass and mid-frequencies. At least not for the loud rock band I'm in. My thing was I always heard the parallel setting with the pre-amp set flat, and it never occurred to me to shape the parallel setting with the EQ. Sometimes I'm not so smart!I almost always start with the parallel setting. Maybe switch to neck for some fatness. If I want max output - series. But parallel works for most everything. Also don't want to confuse the sound guys with changing outputs. Unless I do! lol
