Would it be a short-shaft on the Combustion?
I think the short shaft on the Afterburners is to address the countersunk bushings.

The Z and Prima basses have angled headstocks that eliminate the need for either a string retainer or the countersunk bushings.

Quickly glancing at a few images, it looks as though the AB series is mainly the only model to be short shaft (post that string winds around). It does look as though the Z has a B short shaft in one image with the rest of the tuner's shafts being "normal" length.

Still loving my Afterburner I. It's my "main" now, with my Combustion V4 acting in backup capacity at shows. The V2/V3 Combustion is alt tuning for my other band... I'm half thinking of turning it into something I experiment with on electronics and such. Too bad a P-tone won't fit.

25 weeks to go. Does anyone know when the order is set in stone? I'm not contemplating any changes (still holding steady after 11 weeks), although those new alnico PUPs are visually appealing, I suspect they are also heavier than neos.

I changed my order from an ABZ to an AB1 ~2 months before the completion date (change made 10/1, bass completed 12/3).

We honestly haven't seen much info on these. Even over on the forum there's a question and not much info...

Sheldon did an interview during NAMM where he touched on them, he said they were more vintage/smoother sounding. I love the looks but quite frankly, the Neo punch is one of my favorite things, weight, B string, looks, balance, and even tension being the others, that I really like about Dingwall basses, and caused me to walk away from my P5.

That makes sense, thank you. I'm now wondering if they are single-coil... I am also a fan of Sheldon's neo pickups. I play through neo split p's and super fatties these days, but I also liked the FD3's in my Afterburner.

I'm actually interested in this too for a z series bass. @Sheldon D., when you have a moment, can you clarify which hipshot dimensions we should be ordering to replace our stock tuning machines?

Go for the standard 3/8" Y-key for tuner replacements or Extender Keys (Unless you have Gotohs)

We'll have to leave it up to our early adopters to expand on the differences of the FDV pickups. They are based on the FD3 and modified for Alnico magnets. We're still experimenting with how much magnetic charge we give them. We're aiming for as little as possible. The output is a little lower than the FD3's. They don't react quite as immediately as the neos but they make up for it in clarity and top end sparkle. So to sum up they are a more polite and traditional version of the FD3.
