Yup, the whole thing. Knobs, bridge, input jack cup, string tree. Might even have the strap buttons somewhere but that's not a sure thing.

Hey guys,

I've got a huge favour to ask.

I may buy a new Combustion v4.

Can someone with a Combustion, please measure the distance from fretboard side of the nut (the centre of the 12th fret would work as well) to the centre of the neck and bridge pickups for both the B and G strings?

I'm debating on doing some slight mods to the electronics of the Combustion, but the pickup locations are pretty crucial to the plan.

Sorry, can't really help you Matthew as I moved my Combustions on to other people since getting my AB's. What did you have in mind, though? Keep in mind, the pickup route does give you some options from how they do it:

Thanks Selta. I am debating wiring each pickup out of its own output (like the Rick-O-Sound feature of a Rickenbacker), but I'm not sure this is what I really want to do yet. The measurements may help me decide though.

Quick measurements from 12th fret. I could be off +/- a 16th or more.

B string: 12 5/16" center of neck PU and 15 5/16" center of bridge PU.
G string: 11 15/16" center of neck PU and 14 3/4" center of bridge PU.

That is my only "complaint" (for lack of a better term) too. It's the old pickup shape, too, so good luck on finding drop in replacements. If I could get Dingwall pickups (especially a P-tone) and either a Glockenklang or DG pre in there, yeah, I'd jump on it. That price is pretty tempting. A vanilla Z2 right now starts just shy of $5k.

If you could squeeze a DG pre in there it may make up for the pickups.

For what it is worth, I shot the seller a couple of questions on it last night too. Here is his (verbatim) reply:

the bass is 9 pounds... the electronics i dont know much about except they were supposed to be the best of the best back when the bass was ordered from the factory. they have two 9v very high out put. there is vol nob, 4 way pick up selector switch, tone, two bright low bust toggle, a mid sweep nob, a low cut/ boost nob, a high cust/boost nob.

I went on YouTube and tried to find some clips of any Dingwall of that vintage and struck out. It might actually be not bad to have something completely different than all of my other Dingwalls. But, I'd kick myself if I bought it and disliked it enough to really consider swapping the guts... don't want to turn it into a lot of work or money hole

Is anyone in this thread familiar with the old style 4-way rotary switch? Not the new one with the screw terminals.

I took out all the guts today, getting ready to drill the 4th hole and ream the last 3 to the right size. I thought I took some pictures as I went, but when I went to review them, they were not on my phone. Sigh.

So I have 5 unknown points now on the rotary. The wires that are preset are the wires for the pickups (which, interestingly, don't match, but I don't particularly care about that).

The 4 black dots I believe were black ground wires, but I'm not certain on that, and definitely not at all certain on where they went.

The white dot I believe was signal wire to the volume pot. Again, I may be mistaken on that.

I'm even more tempted to get the screw terminal 4 way switch. I am super cheap though and don't want to spend $60 on one.

So, if anyone can give me clarity on it, I'd very much appreciate it.

I'm tempted just so I can get my hands on a z neck to try out how it feels. I have a 3 band Glock looking for a home but if I can't get fd3s in that shell I'm worried I won't like the sound
