Dingwall Owners Club

I'm thinking about swapping the electronics between my AB1s... I won't have a good break to do that until October, but it's something I'm pretty sure I want to do (unless I find another P-tone that'll fit, somehow).
What are you going for, out of curiosity?
I'm having a Pope pre installed locally in my old AB1, looking forward to the results.

Anyone using flats on an SP5? My Dunlop Super Bright nickels have this really nice, worn in sound that's making think that a set of Chromes might be really nice on it.

I've got a set of La Bella's that I tried on my ABZ6... Great flats, but the ABZ just works best with rounds. If they weren't soooo long I'd try them on my SP.

I have a set of TI Flats on mine. They sound and feel good to me! They are really expensive though. Especially the 5-string set.

Hi Dingwall fans,

Looking very similar but are quite different beasts.

My assessment:

1) Neck
I thought it was noticeably different. Very different feel of the smooth (satin) maple neck vs the open-pored (natural) wenge neck on the Z2. Seems to have an ever so slightly different profile as well.

2) Playability
Nothing at all between them. Outstanding action, perfect in my opinion.

3) Sound
The Sklar seemed leaner. Considering there's the same preamp in there I'd say it's due to a) the difference between SuperFatties (Sklar) and FD3s (Z2), and b) the positioning and angle of the pickups. Could the neck and the body woods (both different) play a role? Sure but let's not go there.

Interestingly the Sklar had a bit more output as well.

Overall not quite as similar as I thought they'd be. Pretty amazing.

Questions? Happy to discuss.

Regards,
Michael

P.S.: My Z2 and the Genzler rig are a match made in heaven!!! And the Sklar is not mine.
