I don't have the "P-tone" as my neck pickup. What does Dingwall do to make it a "P tone?"
With a p-tone pickup in the neck position, I would think so. Sheldon will tell you the the p-tone sounds exactly the same as a split-p. I'm from Missouri (the "Show Me" state) and have not made a direct comparison myself so I can't give an absolute answer.
Question for anyone who purchased, a 4 string NG-2. How comfortable is the low E when dropping it down? In Nolly's recent video it shows him playing a 4 string dropped to A. Is this something done on stock strings? or is this a custom setup?

Maybe it was strung BEAD which makes going to A pretty easy. I know BEAD was an option on the 4s.
I'm sure it's with custom gauge strings. There's no way that you'd be able to downtune that far on a set of strings meant for E Standard tuning. Even on a 37.5" scale the strings would be wet noodles.
The P-tone is a special coil for a neck pickup position voiced to sound like a P in the P position.
Good timing on this topic, I've been meaning to comment on my SJ5XXX since last practice. As a refresher, it has the 3 series/parallel switches, nickel strings. Anyway, I have been so impressed by the neck PUP solo'd and how much Ptone vibe it has. At one time I spec'd it with a Ptone but later changed it to stock, but I swear one made it's way in there. Also surprising is the volume is higher on the neck PUP solo'd with the series switch engaged, than any of the other PUPs paired with switches engaged, not what I expecteed. This bass continues to surpass my expectations after 10 weeks and I have a hard time playing anything else. I'll post some photos after I get the Dcline gaboon ebony luminlay inlaid knobs (should be finished next week).
Should be placing my pre-order tomorrow! I'm so excited I'm shaking! Still having conflictions on what tuning for the 4 string..
Congrats. Me, I'd do BEAD, if only to try it out. You could always restring.
Well I learned something today. I was asking Sheldon why the output of my SJ5 (2013 w/super fatties) is lower than my SJ/P4 and SP4. The discussion turned to pickup wiring. I thought that it was SOP to have the neck pickup wired parallel and the bridge pickup series. He said that they used to do it that way, but they went to parallel/parallel. After paging way back into this thread, I found the wiring picture that shows series and parallel wiring and sure enough, both of my pickups are wired in parallel. I guess I'll have to wire the bridge pickup in series and decide if I like the tonal change or not...
