Do you answer the OP's question, or do you just go off on your own rant?!

Do you answer the OP's question, or do you just go off on your own rant?!

  • My purpose on TalkBass is to be a spring of knowledge for the bass community

  • It depends on the day

  • My wife asked me to stop telling her about why this new bass is the best yet, so I sprinted to TB

  • Never really gave it any thought...

My new output jack for my Kawai F2b came today, this one is much more substantial and more metal than plastic. The original had a small crack along the side that eventually gave way to my cord as I pushed it in the other day. No saving that one!
Looking it over initially I thought it was really weird that they would use one where the housing was completely made of plastic.

I was watching tv the other night. There was a knock at the door. The GF asks me if I was going to see who it was. I told her “No.” She said, “Why not?” I told her it was a drummer at the door. She asked me how I knew that.

“Because, the knocking keeps speeding up and slowing down.”
Thank you, goodnight. ;)

Winner of this thread!

If threads only stuck to the original topic, this would instead be Wikibassepedia, not our beloved Talkbass.

But in response to your question, Yes, except for when it's No. Or Maybe.
This.

I think of a thread as a conversation. Conversations tend to address a point and then meander. Also, good conversation is a skill; you can completely derail it and come off a dolt.

If all you want is a Q&A reference isolated to the topic you ask about, perhaps Wikipedia?

Since the choices of the poll did not either answer or refute the title of the thread directly:

To be, or not to be, that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles
And by opposing end them. To die—to sleep,
No more; and by a sleep to say we end
The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to: 'tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish'd. To die, to sleep;
To sleep, perchance to dream—ay, there's the rub:
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come,
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause—there's the respect
That makes calamity of so long life.
For who would bear the whips and scorns of time,
Th'oppressor's wrong, the proud man's contumely,
The pangs of dispriz'd love, the law's delay,
The insolence of office, and the spurns
That patient merit of th'unworthy takes,
When he himself might his quietus make
With a bare bodkin? Who would fardels bear,
To grunt and sweat under a weary life,
But that the dread of something after death,
The undiscovere'd country, from whose bourn
No traveller returns, puzzles the will,
And makes us rather bear those ills we have
Than fly to others that we know not of?
Thus conscience does make cowards of us all,
And thus the native hue of resolution
Is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought,
And enterprises of great pitch and moment
With this regard their currents turn awry
And lose the name of action.

Perhaps this has been well-trodden territory, but I always enjoy a good poll!

How often does your response to a thread actually answer the OP's inquiry (where applicable), or do you just go off on a rant, travelling into the depths of your own bass labyrinth?

...I ask this because I just did the latter

I for one don’t like tort
