One is my '59 - and that once was a P-J... a rather expensive undo project. The 1st attempt started to show the outlines, so I had Ben Lindsey do his magic on it (also is now aged Fiesta Red)
I pondered and rejected doing a P-J on the Mustang - and I'm glad I did. Ben did a custom pup for it that is not muddy.

We picked up a foreclosure close to where we both grew up. We've got a 2 year old daughter who is close to both of our parents and will go to the school where my wife and I went and where my wife currently teaches. Worked out quite well. The only downside is that it takes me 3 hours to mow the yard!

Keep the Mustang as it is...looks great.

I have an 'undo' with my '64 P-bass.

I have a large spare bedroom set up as a jam room with recording capabilities.

My wife is a music lover and a musician herself. She has a room just for her crafts "The Craft Room" and I have a room for my Basses and Guitars. They line the walls and are on stands on the floor. I do have a desk in there and use it as an office too. But I'm generally not writing a script while playing bass. Although I've tried.....

I have since added blinds (will be doing curtains soon) and some monitors at my desk, though I still pretty much only use headphones. Oh, and a rug
Also, the panels on the walls are home made sound absorption. The room is very very echo-y on its own and these helped a lot. I will be adding some to the ceiling and around the doors soon as well. If you want details of what I did I can give them. I think all of them cost me a total of maybe $80 to make.

I love the sound panels. Who would of ever of bought of making them colourful, (must have been the wife) I'd end up getting Batman sheets and covering the foam with them. So it would end up being a Bat (Bass) Cave!!!! Oh I can just see it.......

Nailed it! I told my wife she could go and buy the fabric after explaining the acoustic needs of the fabric. She came back with a bunch of different patterns as you see and only one she bought couldn't be used because it bounced sound back rather than letting it pass through. I was pretty impressed with her choices and am satisfied with the results. I'll be adding more to the corners and ceilings soon. The panels we have up made a missive difference but its still not quite finished.

Also, I just mentioned this too her, she says batman sheets are expensive. She's also a Batman fan (mostly a fan of Joker and Harley) and probably thought about that while in the store. My guess is since she didn't come back with any batman themed fabric it was too expensive.

I am divorced, and kids on their own. Retired a few years ago from the day job, and while that doesn't leave me with enough money to live off of, playing music full time is a great supplemental income. As one of my son's girlfriends said, " Your house is a musician's house" - lol. Living room has my stereo and two Acoustat electrostatic speakers in the middle in all of their monolithic glory, there is a computer tied to the stereo and my TV and a Presonus audio interface for recording, an Ampeg micro svt next to the TV for practice, basses all over the house. The basement is for my amp collection these days, although it has been a practice room in the past. It houses several vintage Fender and Marshall amps, and my workshop for amp repair. My garage has my PA and amps that I use in my current band. Never a dull day at home!

I have a very modest bass room in what was formally one of my son's bedroom (all 3 of my kids are grown and out of the house now). The son who used to have this bedroom is much happer it's the bass room now. Before that, it was the cat litter box room! :laugh:

How is the sound upstairs? Does it project further out to annoy neighbours?Can the drums be heard a mile away? What about sound travelling downstairs? Reason I ask is we have a single storey house and trying to decide what to do about our rehearsal room. Possibility is building an upstairs extension but I'm assuming the sound will travel even further than it currently does. Any thoughts?

It's loud. It's very loud in the house. I don't play the drums much when my family is home. Neighbors aren't terribly close but I'm sure they can hear it. Wife says it's loud outside as well. My closest neighbors both work night shift so it's easy to play in the evening as they aren't home. The next closest neighbors have dogs that bark all day and all night and often wake me up so I really don't care if they can hear me or not. LOL.

The bottom line is if your music room is upstairs and your using it for band rehearsal, instead of just having walls and a roof to deal with you've now got a floor for the sound to travel though. So that logic tells me it's going to be louder upstairs (when listening form the outside of the home) than if you were in a concrete walled basement.
