Do you name your pets weird names?

I had forgotten about this one. We got a blue cat somewhat like this one when I was 10 or 11.

He was referred to as "Blue Cat" for awhile and then "Blue Boy".

My much older sister, who I got my strange sense of humor from, remembered this painting by Thomas Gainsborough, entitled "The Blue Boy".

Our cat was Mr. Gainsborough which , looking back, I love.

Thanks sis.

I'm thinking if I get to name one--instead of the pun I mentioned before (Which is still a cool idea) or Rabies (Which would be cool)
I might just go with "Steve"

(All the dogs I've owned already had names.)

My cat's name is Thom, after Thom Yorke of Radiohead, because he has an eye that has never quite opened all the way.

My other cat, who passed just under a year ago, was named Gordon. He was named after Alf, who's name on his home planet was Gordon Shumway. I happened to have been re-watching Alf at the time.
The cat eater?
You named a cat after a cat eater?

Oh, the irony!

Actually that's kind of cool.

Friend has a dog named "Dude" and living in Santa Cruz we say "dude" a lot. It's not smart enough to know we aren't talking about him. Gets all excited and hyper. Poor doggie.

I had a series of male Russian dwarf hamsters, all named Ben (The first, junior, etc.). They don't live very long... Especially the one my dog swallowed. And then threw up. And it lived. Tough mofo.

We were foster parents for a bunch of greyhounds, and they came with 'legal names' but probably nothing you'd care to call them by unless they were in trouble and you were going to follow their name with 'go to your room!' A few did have call names, but since most of our fosters were fresh off the track with only the briefest stop in the adoption agency kennels for shots and fixin', we got to name them at least until they found forever homes.

Our dog was Indigo Java, which was shortened before we got him to Indy. Logical enough.

First foster dog came to us as Romeo. He was a non-racing racer (he refused) and he was quite a lover.

Next was ALE Big Valley, which we shortened to Alex.

Next was a huge red boy who was not terribly bright and something of a klutz but extremely happy and lovable. He became Clifford.

_______'s Day Hiker became Hayley.

There were others, but my favorite was Calvin. His 'legal name' was something very awkward that reminded me of the Protestant Reformation. When Mr blastoff complained, I replied that he was lucky I didn't name him Melanchthon.
