Do you name your pets weird names?

Our Shepard, Bridget...Breedge is the Irish shorthand...was hit and killed after 9 years of living with us. It took us 4 years to start flirting with the idea of another dog, and she was going to be a Shepard....someday.
My bride would stop to visit with a friend, and her friends, on Friday afternoons...Happy Hour! One of those friends-of-a-friend was a nurse with a husband who bred Shepards! She announced that there was a new litter, but we were still too tender, so we let it go. From time to time the nurse / friend would bring it up...the price kept dropping, but we didn't want to 'buy' a dog; a member of our family. At long last, there was only one member of that litter still living with them. Finally, our nurse / friend announced on a Friday afternoon that there was another litter on the way...and her husband couldn't have a 10 month old in the pen with a new litter, so he was going to 'put her down'. Nancy called me in tears! We drove out into the county to meet the newest member of our family, and along the way I announced that we could bring her home on one condition...that I would get to name her, and each member of the family would have one veto. I was deep into jazz and the American Songbook at the time, so I asked if "Ella" would fit. Long, pregnant pause...and everyone cheered! Ella lived with us for another 9 years! She died, peacefully, 7 years ago. I put the little silver necklace that I've worn for the last 30 years around her neck as she faded away. I still wear it every day. IF there is a heaven, I want to go there to hold those two dogs in my arms. I was far more blessed by them than I have been by many of the people I've known along the way! Bridget and Ella...helluva pair! Bookends of my life...

My old Pit was named Rocky Balboa. My 2 current jackasses, er, burros, um, basset hounds are named Buford T. Justice & Otis Dey

Buford is the perfect name for a bassett hound. Our's was Buford T. Bassett.

I also had a grey cat the would lay in the furrows of our un-planted garden, she blended in prefect to the point that you could hardly see her. I named her Dirt.

Our tom-cat was named Filbert.

My oddest pet was Jazz, A pure bred Himalayan Persian. His siblings were so frenetic when we went to the breeders house and he was just curled up in a ball. Sleeping. The breed are exceedingly beautiful and Jazz was exceptional even for that breed. He was also the most anti social freak show I've ever seen. He liked me. No, I take that back. He tolerated me. He hated everyone else. Sometimes, occasionally, I would be writing at my word processor (cripes remember those?!?) and he would jump up and lay between my arms, often with his head on my forearm. If I so much as attempted to pet him he would light me up and wander away. My ex wife wasn't allowed to do anything except feed him. When we moved to another state we decided to give him to a home as she was pregnant and his penchant for violence wasn't gonna fly. With no takers in the paper we went to the animal shelter. Before we got in an older lady saw Jazz and fell in love instantly. I warned her about his personality quirks but you know that jackass actually let her pick him up and head butted her chin?!? He had found a great home.

Had a cat named Mrs. Puss when I was a kid. Doesn't seem odd until you consider in 4th grade I did an oral report on my pets and my teacher about dropped a brick when I said the cat's name. It was also pretty funny to see the vet's postcard addressed to Mrs. Puss.

Have a tomcat now that is named Little Mutha F'er. I had to spell it "Fugger" for the vet. But he is a Little Mutha F'er. He's also pretty bad a$$.

My Mom, ohhh man I had forgotten this until I mentioned the thread to my Aunt who owned Icabod. She reminded me that my Mom had bought three little manx kittens. Funky tails and cool as it got. So she gave two away to friends who loved them ( my aunt being one ) and kept the only female. She named her Honey because of her coloring.

My aunt said one day they were visiting and she was watching Honey do young cat things when she notices, as Honey walked away, that Honey had a couple new accessories. . .
He was the fighting-est cat I've ever known. He had cauliflower ears but was the sweetest cat in the world in the house. He was the feline Boy named Sue.

I'm fond of calling my cat "Cat." Lately I have renamed him "Mr. Crowley," however, after Aleister Crowley. He is a black cat, so the connotations of magic and whatnot are suiting.

There is a neighborhood cat that I used to call "Caushiss." This was an intentionally ridiculous misspelling of the word "cautious," which I found to be appropriate because she was a ridiculously skittish cat. I thought that my cat was the father of a litter of kittens that she birthed, but when I found out that that was not the case, I started referring to her as "Billy Jean." From my cat's point of view, "Billy Jean is not my lover, she's just a cat who thinks that I am the one; but the kittens are not my sons."
