Do you use fEARful?

There is a significant difference between reselling a song and engaging a builder to build a cabinet based on plans that were legally obtained. You are making an apples to bowling balls comparison. I'd also respectfully suggest that you probably aren't aware of my involvement with the LDS / fEarful debate and are speaking way, way out of school.

In that case I pitty you that you still have not got over it yet. Your amount of frustration and anger in this thread is above any healthy level I want to deal with.
In the end, this is just the internet

Yet you chose to engage me directly on this issue. I'm more than happy to debate this issue with you if you like, but please don't resort to this type of tactic if you are unable to defend your position.

Here is what I will say about LDS and then I think we should move on to more positive discussion.

Don builds bass cabs. He does a lot of custom work, and lots of people love his builds. He has built cabs for some people looking to get a fEARful cab. Some of those people are happy with the cab they have gotten, regardless of if it was built to spec, or with minor (or not so minor) tweaks. Some people have not been happy with the tweaks.

All that said, greenboy's Authorized builders also build bass cabs. They do custom work as well. I myself have commisioned a custom guitar cab from one of them. That cab came out of the Gigmaster shop with no affiliation to greenboy, and I am pleased with the results. greenboy's builders will also do a lot of different cosmetic options. Some are more experianced in some of the specifics than others, or have better access to source certain options (powder coating, special grills, cnc decals, tolex). If you are looking for an option that a certain builder feels one of the other AB's does better, they will pass along your business so that you get what you want from the best person to meet your needs.

With all those cosmetic options, none of greenboy's builders will produce a greenboy cab that isnt 100% to spec.

The point alot of us are trying to make is; if you think the plans are good enough to use them over what LDS would do otherwise, why not give credit where its due? I understand being cheap, I built my own.
If you believe just cause “you found it on the internet" you can do what you want with it you are right, but to me that shows a lack of class and character. You may not have the same scruples as me, that is your business.
Encouraging others to disregard the wishes of the designer comes across as somewhat malicious.

In the end if you think LDS does a great job and you trust his work then you should stop telling him how to do it, THAT is the biggest insult.
Either way I'm sure in short order you and another cult member will rehash this over again to no avail.

Besides a fEARful I've also been considering a GK NEO 410 or 212. The 410 is the only cab of these three that I actually got to try out. I heard that the 410 is supposed to be tuned to have more low-end than the 212, and the 212 is more on the neutral side in terms of sound/coloration. Any comments as to how the coloration of the GKs may help or hinder in terms of versatility of tone vs the fEARful? I would be running them through 700RBII

I have a pare of 410 NEO cabs, and they are the best sounding cabs I have ever heard when paired with my 700rbII. But I find them lacking when when used with another amp.

Let's not turn this into the usual debate. Everyone can pick whichever side of the LDS v. Greenboy thing they want then hold on to it, but it doesn't change anything that goes on now. I would suggest that there is some over simplification of the debate on both sides of the coin.

Some of the 'charges' of poor quality builds from authorized builders come from people who are looking at home built versions and/or because there ARE one or two builders who are no longer authorized builders due to some issues with producing on time or faulty cabs. I haven't seen sub-standard product come out of any shop in recent years, and I believe that I see most if not all new cabs that come through between TB, Dave's forum and what posts on my Facebook.

FWIW: I’ve noticed it’s the same handful of fan boys always bickering. Like in this thread, it’s the same handful of fan boys posting over and over again. :(

As usual, Joe you do your best to fuel the fire by using terms like 'fanboy'. Do you go into threads about Mesa products or Ampeg products and say the same thing?

"ZOMG JimmyM loves ampeg... and he is always saying that he likes their products... and its not like he or those fEARful fanboys ever recommend something else when they truly feel it fits someones needs better... "

Jimmy happens to be a friend of mine too. :D

And lets see. George, who usually fits in the Mesa 'fanboy' category, as well. ;)

I know a bunch of people who are Jule Amps fanboys, more than a handful of Fender fanboys...because no one would ever stump for them, right? How about guys who say good things about DR strings...they're fanboys too.

What a surprise that if you put the word fEARful in a thread title, those who like or use them would show up to discuss.

Maybe Greenboy wouldn't get too far in court

He wouldn't get anywhere, at all.

but I find Don's willingness to ignore Greenboy's desires pretty sleazy.

If it were LDS advertising and offering the cabs for sale - I might agree.

When it is a custom builder, only building what is brought to him by a customer (and Don had to be CONVINCED to build it to plan) - the CUSTOMER is the one using the plan for personal use.
