Does your bass collection have a theme?

My theme could be defined as a lack of a theme.
Diversity would be the proper term I guess.
I have a Yamaha jazz style I picked up not too long ago, and I have my Blacktop jazz with a fretless neck which is the best fretless I have ever played if I must say so.
I am working on maybe a Fender p/j next.

Not a theme as such but all my basses have a couple things in common...
They are all passive,
They are all very simple in terms of onboard tone shaping tools( either none at all or P bass layout).
All have one pickup.
My main basses have alder bodies and brazilian rosewood fingerboards on maple necks.
None have any fretboard markers.
All pickups come from the same manufacturer.

Sounds like an interesting theme. I would love to see a picture of this family.

4-String Dingwall Super P/J - Maple Burst top, Ziracote fretboard, Maple neck, Mandolin frets

5-String Dingwall AB II - Arbutus Burl top, Bubinga neck, wenge fretboard

5-String Dingwall AB II Fretless - Bubinga w/Bubinga neck, wenge fretboard

I guess if there's a theme for mine, it would be SYMMETRY

  • 3 4-strings / 3 5-strings
  • 3 neck thru / 3 bolt on
  • 2 light wood finishes / 2 dark wood finishes / 2 burst finishes
  • 3 ebony boards / 3 maple boards
  • 3 with pickguards / 3 without pickguards
  • 3 with brass nuts / 3 without
  • 3 with adjustable nuts / 3 without

All have soapbar pickups....guess that's a theme.

Yo mang, DAS one might' fine theme.

When I have the time/inclination/money, all of my basses will most likely get SteamPunked.

I'm seeing some copper/shoreline gold refins... Anodized pickguards, brass hardware...

Hurry up and get the time/inclination/money! I'd love to see this theme realised.
*********************

I have Three Themes:

1) Uprights Gig, BGs stay home.

2) "Inexpensive", of course. Both my DBs are cheapos, a carved and an even cheaper semi-solid; plus I have a Hamer Slammer that was given to me that is going to become an 8 string (2 courses of four). My two Jags were a super Donovan deal.

3) Modded Jaguars. I plan to get some Fender Jaguars and heavily mod them. The two Squiers will swap necks, the HB will become a completely blacked out fretless, the plain maple headstock is going to get a new decal that says "Squire", not "Squier". Behind the P/J may get a Kahler whammy, a mudbucker...

I'll keep the Hamer, and probably acquire other various types of basses over time, but Jags... They're the cat's mmmeeeowwww!

Never really thought about it, but looking them over now I'd say my theme is "non-standard" - I don't own any Fenders, for example. 2 old Rickenbackers ('73 and '81), a '61 Gibson EB3, a MusicMan SUB fretless (US-built, not the new one), a Gretsch 5440 hollowbody, a '76 Ibanez Andorra classical guitar and a '66 Framus Sorrento hollowbody electric 12-string...all played through a '65 Vox AC50.

Noticed one more thing about my tribe....all 6 are made in the USA. Four made in California, one in Florida, one in North Carolina.

And continuing my theme of 3......3 made before 1990, 3 after 2000
