Dumb Craig's List Ads pt.4: Dumber and Dumbest

Status
Not open for further replies.
i just went through a bizarre CL experience last week an commenced today.
1 - i see an ad posted on my local CL of a bass for sale/trade. the guy leaves no contact information. i post an ad for the guy in the ad to post contact info or call me.
ten minutes later he calls me; i asked him if he was the guy selling the such and such bass and he says no but he has one just like it for trade and that he was interested in one of mine i was selling. confused right away.
i see him that weekend and i loved his bass but after playing mine he says no to the trade. i was pissed because i made a trip out to his place and such.

2 - i sell my bass to a TBer a few days later; meanwhile this guy on Cl finally updates his ad complete with contact info. i call him and tell him i sold my bass and have cash to buy his- i figure a slam dunk, right?
i offer him full asking value on his ad and then he tells me he would think about it for three days and get back to me on monday; the way he talked i was sure he would sell it- i mean cash is king right?

3 - he calls me and says no. everytime i speak with the guy i walk away a little dumber because:
1 - he says i am the only reply he has had
2 - he wants it to go to a good home
3 - i was paying top dollar for his bass

for the life of me i am still unclear as to why he isn`t selling it to me.

on the other hand, i have had great transactions on here with TBers and i am starting to lose faith in the local CL thing...

lo and behold-guess who calls me today offering to sell the bass to me...out of spite i should have said no. but i said YES!!!

Philly CL:

ATTENTION DRUMMER,
im looking for a drummer that can play the following beat
all my songs use this same pattern
bass drum on beats 1 and 3
snare on 2 and 4
hi hat on 1 and 3 but some times 1,2,3,&4
most tempos are around 145 to 165
but only because its hard to find a guy that can play faster
if you can do that over the course of 1 set (about 50 min)
id like to start playing shows right away
ATTENTION BASS PLAYER
i write very simple basic songs
for bass its mostly 4 to 6 notes all in a box pattern
if you learn one song you know them all
i need a bass player willing follow along and NOT Play Lead Bass
all song tempos are around 145 to 165
maybe even faster if every one can keep up for an entire 50 min. set
i do not want to rehearse this to death
so please be proficient

I guess I missed the class on "box patterns" when I took music theory long ago.

Makes sense to me, although not technically correct.

Root, minor 7th, fifth, fourth. Or some variation of those. On those "6 note" lines they would be adding in a minor 3rd.

Think about it. It makes a "box".

I'm going to venture this is a metal or hard rock band.

He may get a more competent bassist if he states that he's looking for someone who can play along with dominant and minor 7th chords.

At least that's my take on it.

Now the big question is.....how many of you are going to go pick up your bass and play these....making the "box"???:ninja:

I laughed out loud at this add. It's absolutely ridiculous. Just what I want to do.... open up for an act for free just because they're from LA! Reality check dudes, if you're playing for gas money to get to the next show, you're not big enough to have connections in the industry. Therefore, you have no cred and no one of any talent is going to open for free on empty promises of "exposure". Oh, and then expect me to advertise your show for free too... :scowl:

Rock band for L.A. band needed

The Event Center is looking for an opening act for the L.A. band Slant.
We are looking for an Amarillo local hard rock type band that is stage
ready with about 30-45 mins worth of music. A bigger set list is always
welcomed though.

Slant will be coming though Amarillo Saturday, May 21st for one night
only. They will be on a "gas money" tour which means they will be selling
T-shirts, CDs, etc... plus a percentage of the door to help get them to the
next show.

So if you have a band that can play an opening set for free please contact
me and we can set something up. Getting your band exposure with an L.A.
band will always help your resume, right? We will do all the promotion but
if you want a bigger crowd, your help is also needed.

Go to Slant to check out the bands music and see if your
band would fit as a good opening act.
If we get a lot of entries, I will send all the bands info to Slant to have
them help choose the opening act.

Thanks for reading

Not sure what's dumb about that ad...

yeah. it's kinda neat that you CAN use a Guitar Hero controller as a cheap midi guitar..... lol. but say what it is. that's a tad shady.

i've never played any of the Guitar Hero/Rock Band rhythm guitar games, so i have no idea if that's way more than they go for.
