EBMM StingRay Special Club

So interesting...

I asked my local EBMM dealer today if i could get a modification made to a off the shelf spec of a current year color SRS.


EBMM got back to them and said that those finishes are already discontinued but they can make an exception for me for last years finishes.... tbh I was hoping to see what the new finishes were for 2026 before pulling the trigger.

I checked online and they haven't updated the site at all to show the new finishes, but interesting they are telling vendors that they can't offer any of the current finishes without announcing new ones. I feel like it would be too bold to ask what the replacement finishes will be haha, but im trying recall.. did they show the finishes off in advance before NAMM last year or was it at/after NAMM?... since they are offering to do me a 1 time solid here, i don't know if i want to tempt 15 days to take them up on thier offer lol.

The FOMO is real..

Hey, guys. I have an update on my kinda-new Stingray Special 5H’s self-motivated bridge saddle screws….

The boiled linseed oil treatment seems to be working. Since I applied it to the screws, the saddles have stayed put. I did 2 rehearsals, 2 gigs, a rehearsal for Sunday church services , and 2 Sunday mornings, each with 3 services.

Plus practice time at home.

Whether or not the treatment holds up over time is to be determined.

But so far, so good.

I just discovered over the last few days how important the 5HH bridge pickup height is. In playing my 5HH at the last couple of rehearsals (and moving back-and-forth between my 5H and the 5HH) I’ve noticed it was lacking a little bit of punch in position one for the bridge pickup.

So while at home (practicing with my IEMs where I could hear things super clear) I then started playing with the pickup height. Too high, and I would hear harsh distortion… then by slowly adjusting down I got it at the right height where I’ve got that punch back and things sound great.

Superglue is your friend!

When that happened to me (not on this new one, but the Frosted Pearl 5H I had a couple of years ago), I superglued the broken piece back onto the nut. Don't use too much, or better yet, use a speck of the gel superglue.

I was back playing in 30 minutes (wanted that glue joint to cure good and solid!). I ordered a replacement nut immediately (MM took pity on me and sent 2!....😁), but I didn't want to replace the nut myself, preferring a guitar tech to put it on and do any leveling it might need. The superglued nut worked perfectly! It was a few weeks before I could stop long enough to have the tech replace the nut.

I kept the broken-but-reglued nut. It's still in one piece in my parts drawer.

That’s good advice. Miraculously, the string still sits properly and doesn’t pop out. I’ll do the super glue trick for now. Once the new one shows up I’ll be dropping it off at my trusted luthier.

Well.. now I have to figure out if I like the grape crush and order one before it's too late or this new purple sparkle... Wish I could see it on a 4 string without the giant pickguard.


Darkray 2 looks actually really cool and despite the green one being cool... I don't need another green bass.. curious if they let you pick the darkray current colors as well. I'm actually tempted.. but I was already on the fence for the normal darkray because I'm afraid ten years from now something will blow and il have a several thousand dollar statue that can't be plugged in.. this adds to this concern

50th anniversary stuff looks like more show peices than something you play lol.. I'm sure they will be insanely expensive so while kinda novel not something I'm interested in.

if something blows you'll still have a sweet sounding 2 band Stingray. I'm not to worried about it. Trickfish has a new MM style pickup, worst case scenario you could use their system in it

They could have just been dumb and the battery terminal was broken or something, but my local used shop actually got a darkray in last summer, and when i went to try it they said they had to take it off the wall because when the darkglass circut wasnt working the whole bass electronics also didnt. :(

Anyone else surprised the CDE colors mostly are pretty tame/plain lol... i mean the green and yellow burst and a few others are pretty intense but most of them are pretty uninspiring, even the newer ones they are about to add aren't like OMG THATS AWESOME kinda of colors unlike some of their production finishes.


Someone commented i think asking if you can get the current production colors as well i think, when i emailed EBMM they said if its something they are actively having in a production line its not a problem you would just pick something at the same teir (transparent, vs pearl, vs sparkle) and they would note that it actually is getting a production color.
