Ebola Comes To USA

A real danger exists, and it's due to air travel, and the long incubation period of the disease, with no symptoms apparent.

But one study whose validity is highly questionable that posited that the disease was transmitted by water droplets in the air between two animal species simply does not make it an airborne disease, and that is the source of the hysteria and paranoia, I believe.

Ebola Shmebola......whadda crock o diaper load, Geez.........can't we find a better use for the friggin internet? We need to focus on the real internet mission.............................PORN.

I, like billions of humans, could really do without the internet if it wasn't for porn. Lets be honest, we all try to be wonderful humanitarians, but, we would not really give a crap if it wasn't fer the abundance of nekkid wimmen.

I picture a pimply-faced 14 year old sitting in the dark in his underwear... the only light in the room coming from the monitor.

Am I close?

W.H.O. says Ebola will claim 20,000 lives in the next six months – exhibiting characteristics it could go pandemic ( http://theextinctionprotocol.wordpress.com/)

The risk is primarily in third-world countries with weak health care systems. Therefore, maybe Texas isn't the optimal place for the first US case to pop up, but I still don't think the threat is significant in this country. Because it spreads so easily, the flu is a greater threat.

+1

Approximately 50,000 people die each year in the USA alone from the Common Flu.

Get ready to PANIC!

I disagree. The estimated mortality rate of Ebola (60%) vs the known mortality rate of influenza (less than 1%) makes Ebola the hands-down winner. And also many of the symptoms of the flu can be mitigated with OTC meds.

Ebola? Nope.

edit:
and Im reading some stuff right now about the real modes of Ebola infection. Apparently, the pathogen can survive for hours on a surface not exposed to sunlight (UV radiation). So if an Ebola-infected person person touched a subway railing, and another person who touched that same railing were to wipe his nose or eyes (or any mucous membrane), he could become infected.

This explains why the folks in W. Africa are "dying in the streets" as POTUS put it.

The News media wont disclose this because the CDC instructed them not to for fear of panic. (according to the article)

...The Liberian man had contact with many many people before he was properly diagnosed with Ebola...

And according to my friend the doctor, an infected person is not contagious until they succumb to the virus, so if the guy was up and walking, even if he felt like crap, he was not at risk of spreading the virus.

Not to mention it is only spread through direct contact with infected body fluid, so short of him spitting or crapping on someone as he made his way through the airport, the chances of incidental spread is nil.

A lot of illnesses have a high mortality rate but do not spread easily and therefore remain below the freak-out threshold.
