Uncle Toad, I've had the same matching set of strings for over a year and I bought them off-retail from a TB'er! I don't have a problem, I'm better now. It's just time for new strings, that's all. Really, I'm all better now. Really I am.

Man, I got spiders crawlin' on me. Where the hell is that guy?

I can't remember the last time I had the same set of strings on anything for a year.

I'm far to sick for that.

Hi folks! TB Newbie here... have been browsing the forums for some time though, finding lots of good stuff...and lots of mind boggling about strings and stuff...

So I got myself a set of Evah Pirazzis but ain't super-happy with them... Have had them on for about a week now so they're like new. Seems a bit too strong for me and my bass (the bass itself kind of sound a bit muffled, coz of higher tension then it had before (corelli 380M)?). Actually I tried detune them a whole stepp and likede the feel and sound of that!

And here's tho proposition:
I wonder if anyone would be interested in trading them for a set of Velvet Animas of similar freshness? Think I would like those, of what I read about them and heard soundwise from some players I like.

Just straigth a trade. I'm in europe (sweden), but I guess shipping costs isn't that big deal overseas anyway...

For what it's worth, and talking from no experience with the EP's specifically, I have found that new strings need a good 2-3 week period of breaking in before they, and the bass, reach an agreement. Also, after a string change, a visit to the luthier for a soundpost adjustment and setup has done wonders for me when I've felt the bass is choked or not feeling right.

Yes, I guess I will keep the Pirazzis on anway and see what happens, but they are supposed to have a very short break in period. About the setup, I'm sure thats part of it. The corellis I had before are quite thinn, and the strings on before them were the even thinner factory strings that were on the bass when I bought it used not even a year ago. So, that is to say I've actually thought about the nut slots, if they were too narrow. but i dunno..

Listened to those tunes from Jeremy Allens myspace page, and I've got to say I like the sound he's making with them. But that's not with my bass and not me playing it.:)

A bit paranoid about string tension, since I've had some left hand/wrist problems, but that have become alot better thanks to wrist exersising and a lot better technic. Been practising qute a bit so I might be a bit worn, maybe I will take it cool this weekend and rest my hand (and ears).

My set has just been on five minutes, so obviously I have nothing intelligent to observe. But let me just say, "Wow."

At very first blush, these seem to be the strings I was looking for when I had my doomed flirtation with the Velvet Compass strings: low tension; sophisticated, "ropey" (if not gut-like) sound; easy to bow and finger; and lots of power.

Among other things, it's the first time I've had a complete set of one type of string on my four-string since the bass crawled out from under a PEI cabbage leaf. Like Hampton, I've never before found a single set that worked on my bass, but this may be it.

More in a few days when the strings have settled in a bit.

IN THE MEANTIME, a question for my fellow EP'rs: How long did it take you to reach pitch stability on the strings when you first put them on?

Any of you who have talked to Pirastro, did you ask about a solo set of EPs at all? They've already got an ext E/C and low B, right? I hope they're planning to also make a solo gauge.

Jeff, I don't know about a low B (I'd love to try one on my five-string), but I can confirm the long C string -- I have one, as does Hampton. In my opinion (after only an hour or so playing, so far), it's a great string that could cause me to abandon the Permanent long C, which has been my favorite so far. The EP long C has a ton of power and is quite bowable. So far, so very good.

I would say it took not more than a couple of days. It took little enough time that I can't remember it being an issue. The A string was off for a little while, but that happens with every A on my bass and I think it's a question of the slot or the tuner. And since then, the tuning stability has been like that of Spirocores--they need tuning like once a week. I'm just very pleased with these strings, and although I may end up using an Oliv G with the set I can really live with the EP G anyway.

Intonation sticks with the EP's after a few days in my case. When they were still young they really only drifted a few cents flat. Nothing too dramatic (compared to the other strings I have used). I am now using the EP's with an Oliv G and couldn't be happier. I am still adjusting to the differnece in guage and tension but I seem to have gained volume and clarity with the EP D. The recorded sound is also very pleasant. I just recorded a record with them and will put clips up once it is mixed.
