IIRC, "Scorpio" was a Top-20 hit back in the day.
Hell, I just checked..."Scorpio" peaked at #6 on the Charts in 1971.
...and I keep telling people that Pop music was not so dumbed down back then...and all I get is "You're sounding like your parents, Keller". :atoz:

I don't ever remember Sunshine of Your Love having a bass solo.

Sleep - The Druid

The Smiths have a lot of songs where the bass is the lead instrument, particularly on the Hatful of Hollow album. You've Got Everything Now and These Things Take Time are good examples.



I know most of them are just fills or not proper solos, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head (beside the obvious ones that have been mentioned like Metallica)

I get the feeling there's some Rage Against The Machine and Children of Bodom I am missing.

"baba o'reilly" -the who (if you ever listen to a live version you'll see)

... actually, pretty much anything by the who short of "magic bus"

it's pretty simple but the opening of death cab for cutie's "i will possess your heart" is 4 minutes of (mostly) solo bass

"silly love songs" my sir paul is basically 4 minutes of kick ass bass with piano and drum accoutrement

Well, if "solo" means a solo...

"I'll Take You There" The Staple Singers, bass by David Hood (a SCP BTW)
"You Can Call Me Al" Paul Simon, bass by Bakithi Kuamoalo (spelling butchered, I'm sure)
"Brown Eyed Girl" Van Morrison, don't know the bassist on the recording
"Smooth Operator" Sade, bass by Paul Denneman
"Hot Legs" by Rod Stewart- Don't know the bassist here either, could it be Phil Chen?

And then there's other solos that are on less popular songs- like Willie Weeks on "Everything is Everything (Voices Inside) on the Donny Hathaway live album.

And not solos, but "lead bass" which is generally horrible when most folks try to do it...
