the point was that they are before the 90s and far from rock music... So far in this thread I see a lot of name that tells me "Rock" doesn't have any meaning since it include all style of music from Pop to Rock,Grunge to Punk, to Prog and of course Metal.

OK thanks for clarifying. BTW, those other styles didn't exist until later. Music has evolved, that's the whole point of this thread.... let's all move on please.

I'm not going to list any bands, because someone will complain it's not rock and roll according to their own made up criteria that only includes (your old music here)

Morello just makes cool noises. Does he actually play any melodies or rhythmic passages? The rhythm section was what made them great.

I disagree, he has some very good melodic solos. A lot, actually.

Theres so much good music being made nowdays that its impossible to catch up, and also probably hard to be discovered too.. Just by listening to some tracks in the Doom metal thread earlier the quality on music even by hobbyists is amazing..

Well, I'm 43 and rock has always had a broad definition for me. I don't see how grunge bands aren't rock. Prog? Isn't it called Prog rock?
