The Sonic Gray Jazz comes stock with a Parchment pg. One of my local shops just got a few in, and the Sonic Grey is definitely parchment, while the Oly White P, Sunburst P and Sunburst J basses have thr mint pg. I'd post a pic, but I'm not there now. I personally think that the Sonic Gray would look better with the mint pg, but it's a personal preference (I'm not usually a fan of white/parchment pg's).

I know they don't offer it, but I think I'd like the Sonic Grey with a white pearloid pickguard.
Either that or black, even, would compliment the color. The color is a blue/gray, so a darker color would set it off, imo. Aged white pearl is a very classy look, too, and would also look good.
So am I correct in saying these have the same or similar neck to the 63AVRI? I've an opportunity to get a Sonic Blue '63 but can't actually try before I buy. I know the seller and trust it'll be great but a local shop has the new Am.Pro in stock. Would it be a good reference in terms of neck dimensions of the AVRI for anyone who has tried them?
I don't mind the vintage frets and have played basses with them in the past with no buzz/rattle. My Super P5 has 'banjo' frets which are great!

The Professional feels similar to the Vintage 63 but not as bulky. In my opinion it's a little more comfortable than the 63. I shied away from the 63 for that reason... But to me the professional is spot on!
Out of curiosity, does the Professional feel much different than the American Standard?
Yes it feels like it has a little more mass to it but more comfortable as well. To me that's an upgrade. Don't know how else to explain it other than it has a more comfortable C shape. I actually like it better than my 68 P.... It's not a baseball bat by any means.
I got to play one today. While in a shop trying different basses one of the sales guys brought a new one fresh out of the box. The plastic was still on the pickup. Just a quick review. It was excellent. Straight out of the box it was almost perfectly in tune with a comfy setup. Plugged in it had that classic P tone. I compared it to an American Standard. Is it worth the extra $. I'm not sure. But it is an excellent instrument and I don't think its overpriced given the quality, playability and sound.
Edit: The neck profile felt great. A bit narrow compared to other P basses. And the satin finish makes changing positions smooth and easy.

Appreciate the feedback. That is likely going to be my next bass. Either that or a mod shop in one of the gorgeous blues with a maple neck (only way to get maple as a lefty) but that would cost more, and most who have tried these say they are great so far.
Can you recommend a place where I could get a tortoise pickguard for the pbass?
I would just order a Fender American Std tort guard. The hole patterns are identical and so is the truss access. They're also one of the few companies that gets tort at least somewhat right, with many other companies going over to faux tort (All Parts, Stew Mac), and putting faux tort on that bass would be a crime. Yes it's more expensive, but that bass deserves it.
I replaced my parchment pick guard with a white pear pick guard from Warmoth. Really makes it "pop."
